Preventing school violence at its root.

In response to incidents of school violence and deviant behavior among students, the provincial Department of Education and Training has implemented numerous solutions to prevent these issues early and proactively. According to Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training Huynh Van Hoa (pictured):

The majority of students in the province have a good sense of discipline, abide by school rules, and exhibit appropriate behavior. However, recently, instances of bullying and some deviant behaviors in ethics and lifestyle have occurred among a small number of students. Notably, some incidents not only take place within the school but also appear online, affecting students' psychology and public opinion. Although the number of incidents is not large, each one is thought-provoking and requires the education sector to continue implementing timely, appropriate, and more effective solutions.

- Reporter: What are the main causes of domestic violence?

- Mr. Huynh Van Hoa: When considering this issue, we believe that a comprehensive and humane approach is necessary because every student's behavior has a cause that needs to be understood and supported.

At school age, students are in the process of personality formation, their psychology is still undergoing many changes, and their skills in controlling emotions and resolving conflicts are not yet fully developed. In addition, the social environment, and especially the online space with its diverse information, has a certain impact on their perceptions and behavior.

Furthermore, in some cases, the coordination between family, school, and society in caring for, guiding, and supporting students has not been timely or adequate. Therefore, this is an issue that requires the joint efforts of many parties with a spirit of education , sharing, and responsibility to help students develop comprehensively in terms of knowledge, morality, and life skills.

- Reporter: To prevent and stop school bullying, what solutions has the education sector implemented and what skills have been provided to students?

- Mr. Huynh Van Hoa: In recent times, the provincial Department of Education and Training has determined that preventing school violence is not just about handling situations, but a comprehensive educational process, implemented synchronously and consistently throughout the entire sector. First and foremost, the sector focuses on building a safe, healthy, and friendly educational environment in all educational institutions; with an emphasis on educating students on ethics, lifestyle, cultural behavior, and life skills from an early age, through daily learning and activities.

The Department of Education and Training directs 100% of educational institutions to sign commitments to implement solutions for preventing and combating school violence, incorporating this into the criteria for evaluating the performance of unit heads annually. The People's Committees of communes, wards, and special zones are assigned targets in coordinating with the Department of Education and Training, including targets for preventing and combating school violence.

The Department of Education and Training also directed educational institutions to strengthen efforts in understanding students' psychology, detecting early signs of abnormal behavior to provide timely counseling and support; and to promote the role of homeroom teachers and youth organizations in schools in accompanying students. Particular emphasis was placed on the coordination mechanism between schools, families, and local authorities, as well as relevant agencies, to promptly prevent, support, and handle emerging situations appropriately, humanely, and in accordance with regulations.

The work of disseminating legal information and educating students on the safe and healthy use of social media is also being given attention and promoted. At the same time, inspection and supervision are being strengthened, and the responsibility of the heads of educational institutions in building a safe, healthy, and friendly school environment is being enhanced.

With comprehensive solutions, the provincial education sector aims not only to prevent school violence but, more importantly, to contribute to shaping positive character and lifestyles for students.

- Reporter: In order for domestic violence prevention efforts to be sustainably effective, what do you think needs to be done?

- Mr. Huynh Van Hoa: From the solutions that the education sector has been implementing, we realize that building a safe, healthy, and friendly school environment and preventing and combating school violence cannot be solely the effort of the school, but requires the support of families and society. For schools, each teacher should not only perform their teaching role well but also genuinely care for, listen to, and promptly share with students, because sometimes understanding them at the right time can help them avoid regrettable behaviors.

For parents, it's crucial to dedicate time to caring for and supporting their children, especially during periods of significant psychological change. Simultaneously, close cooperation with the school is essential for timely guidance and support. For students, we hope they learn to respect, love, and share with their friends. When conflicts arise, they should choose to communicate and resolve them calmly and positively, rather than resorting to impulsive behavior.

Above all, when every adult sets a good example in their behavior, care, and support, the school environment becomes safer and more humane, aligning with the goals of the education sector: shaping positive character and lifestyles for students to help them develop comprehensively and become global citizens in the context of national integration and development.
