Book and Reading Culture Festival in Dong Giang

BTO - With messages such as "Good books need readers," "Precious books as gifts," "Gift good books - Buy real books," and "Good books: Read with your eyes - Listen with your ears," the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Festival 2024 was organized this morning (April 12th) by the Department of Information and Communications at Dong Giang Primary and Secondary School (Ham Thuan Bac District). This is a provincial-level event organized to celebrate Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day on April 21st.

Attending the event were Mr. Nguyen Le Thanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications, Mr. Vo Thanh Huy - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism , representatives from the Ham Thuan Bac District People's Committee, the Provincial Library, and over 400 students and teachers from Dong Giang Primary and Secondary School.

Reading books helps students improve their knowledge and Vietnamese language skills.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Le Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications, affirmed: "Books play a very important role in the spiritual life of each of us. Books are an unlimited source of human knowledge, providing readers with very useful knowledge and experience in learning, research, and enriching their lives. Reading books to improve awareness in all aspects is a legitimate need of every person and also reflects the culture of a civilized and modern society. Therefore, in the 2024 Book and Reading Culture Festival, the Department of Information and Communications, together with the Provincial Library, hopes to bring books to grassroots levels and to disadvantaged areas, contributing to the donation of knowledge and creating lasting values ​​to develop the reading movement in the community. At the same time, we hope that schools will strengthen the dissemination of the importance of reading to students, organize activities at the library, contribute to nurturing a spirit of learning, forming a reading culture, and arousing passion and self-learning ability in students..."

During the book festival, students and teachers at Dong Giang Primary and Secondary School were guided by the Provincial Library to find and read books at the mobile library, participate in fun science games, write reflections on a story, and compete in computer-based competitions. In addition, the library awarded scholarships and notebooks to three students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and a bicycle to help them get to school.

On this occasion, the Department of Information and Communications donated two bookshelves containing 200 titles/830 copies, including publications on social sciences, literature and art, history, geography, textbooks, and comics, to Dong Giang and La Da Primary and Secondary Schools. In addition, Binh Thuan Book and Equipment Joint Stock Company and Viettel Binh Thuan jointly supported the two schools with approximately 250 books. This encourages students to read outside of class hours to enhance their Vietnamese language skills, improve their knowledge, and develop self-learning, reading, and teamwork skills.
