Both students are orphans in extremely difficult circumstances, and have been sponsored by Brigade 96 from August 2022 until they turn 18, in response to the "Godmother" program launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union. Over the past 3 years, Brigade 96 has coordinated with families, schools and local organizations to provide cash and in-kind support to care for and support the two children to go to school.

Leaders and commanders of Brigade 96 presented gifts to support two students sponsored by the unit.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Xuan Tham, Political Commissar of Brigade 96, shared: “The unit always hopes that the two children and their families will continue to make efforts, no matter how difficult it is, they must not be discouraged but must strive to study well, work well to stabilize their lives, and accumulate provisions for the future. We always accompany and support the children and their families to be steadfast and confident in overcoming all difficulties, towards a bright future.”

To materialize the sponsorship program, entering the new school year, the unit gives each child a set of textbooks for each level and class; a pair of books; a uniform and many notebooks and learning tools. In addition, every year, the unit also supports 100% of tuition fees and gives health insurance cards to help children feel secure going to school. To ensure daily life, each month, the unit supports 15kg of rice/child. In total, from 2022 to now, Brigade 96 has supported 2 children with a total cost of more than 50 million VND.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Biec, Phan Minh Long's mother, shared: "Every time I receive information from the commander of Brigade 96 announcing the time to come and give gifts to the family, I am moved and cry with joy. I feel the sincere affection and deep concern of the Artillery soldiers. That practical support is a source of encouragement and motivation for my child to try to be good and study well. I myself also strive to raise my child well."

Officers and soldiers of Brigade 96 (Artillery - Missile Command) carry out mass mobilization work in the area.

The orphan sponsorship program was implemented after the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, seriously affecting the lives, health and livelihoods of people in the provinces and cities of the Southeast region. An Phuoc commune is an area that suffered severe consequences. Many children suddenly became orphans after the pandemic. Therefore, the "Godmother" program not only practically joins hands to ease the pain of loss for orphans but also has a profound humanitarian meaning, demonstrating the noble gesture of Uncle Ho's soldiers.

Understanding these great losses, over the past 3 years, Brigade 96 has closely coordinated with local authorities to effectively carry out mass mobilization work, policies and the “Godmother” program. This is the concretization of the tradition of solidarity and humanity of the nation and the Army, “leaving no one behind”, contributing to consolidating and building “the people’s hearts and minds”, and a close relationship of solidarity between the army and the people.
