In the Vietnamese sports world, Hue is not only admired for her achievement of winning tickets to the Olympics three times - a rare feat for any athlete - but also for her patriotic spirit and dedication to the country.
Coming to rowing quite late, Hue was quickly "fascinated" by the training sessions under the sun and wind on the river and from then on considered it as a part of her flesh and blood. Although the years have passed, her skin has been tanned by the sun and wind, her hands have become calloused, her shoulders have been deeply marked by hardships, but for Hue, rowing has become a reason for living, a lifelong love, for which she has devoted herself.
Her love for her career is not only linked to the races, but also to her personal life, from marrying a husband in the same profession to returning to training after giving birth to her first child, and then welcoming her second child, she still returned to the team as a pillar, guiding her juniors. There were times when her husband and two young children had to rent a house next to the team's training place just to be close to their mother in the limited time after training.
For single athletes, each medal of the SEA Games, Asian Games or international tournament is the result of a long journey of hard training, but for a mother of two, the hardship is multiplied. Yet, Hue has never been discouraged.
She shared: “I will practice and compete until I no longer have enough strength.” That determined smile is proof of her steadfast belief: competition is patriotism and patriotism is competition.
Throughout her career, Pham Thi Hue has won dozens of medals at all levels, along with many noble awards from the State. But above all, the most valuable thing is her example of will, determination and silent sacrifice for Vietnamese sports. Hue is not only the pride of her family and of rowing, but also a beautiful image of a female athlete who always puts the Fatherland above all, inspiring future generations.
Although she is now old, Hue is still full of enthusiasm to contribute to the country's sports. She is honored to be one of the typical delegates attending the Patriotic Emulation Congress of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. That will be the motivation for Hue to continue training, competing, and achieving many achievements, the first of which will be the 33rd SEA Games, held in Thailand, next December.
