On November 24, Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital Dong Hoi (Quang Binh) said that doctors had just surgically closed a cranial brain fistula combined with endoscopic surgery to remove a foreign object that was part of a pierced chopstick. from the nose to the brain of a 11-year-old man. What is worth mentioning is that the foreign object has been lodged deep in this patient's skull for the past 35 months.
According to the patient's family, about 5 months ago, while drinking, Mr. PVT (born 1988, residing in Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province) had a fight with another person and was injured. Mr. T. was taken to the emergency room but no abnormalities were detected in the nose area and only received medical treatment.
Mr. T. said he did not know there was a chopstick sticking from his nose into his brain. He only remembers that during a fight at the drinking table, he was stabbed in the face by something and was taken to first aid, but after that he only felt headaches, tightness, and pus flowing from his nose and throat many times.
Before emergency treatment at Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital Dong Hoi, the patient felt an itch in his nose so he used tweezers to remove the foreign object and suddenly discovered a large foreign object inside.
Immediately after that, Mr. T. was taken to the emergency room by his family at the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi with a headache, loss of vision, and a lot of fluid flowing from his nose and throat.
Through a CT scan of the brain, doctors noted intracranial pneumothorax. After consultation, the medical team decided to perform endoscopic surgery through the nose combined with microsurgery to close the patient's brain fistula without leaving any sequelae.
After a successful surgery, the patient's health condition is currently stable and he continues to receive recovery treatment awaiting discharge from the hospital.
