Highly appreciating the achievements that Captain Tran Dinh Nguyen has made in the past, Lieutenant Colonel Cao Chi Luyen, Deputy Head of Political Affairs of the Hue City Border Guard Command, respectfully said that it is the result of the process of cultivating political fortitude and constantly striving to successfully fulfill the "two roles" of a young border guard officer.
Born and raised in the mountainous province of Lao Cai , after graduating from the Border Guard Academy, Tran Dinh Nguyen was assigned the role of Reconnaissance Team Leader at Lang Co Border Guard Station, a unit on the coastal border of Hue city. For Nguyen, patrolling at sea was a challenge. "We had learned the knowledge, professional skills, and techniques related to coastal border guard work, but we had never experienced it in practice, so we were inevitably bewildered and worried," Captain Nguyen recalled.
Patrolling the sea to prevent and combat crimes and violations of the law, including illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, is one of the important tasks of the Border Guard Force. When performing these duties in rough seas, especially at night, they face numerous difficulties, hardships, and dangers. Young border guard officers always bear in mind that they must strive to improve themselves many times over to work together with their unit to successfully complete their mission.
From the very beginning, when assigned by the Party Committee and the unit's Command to participate in regular daytime patrols in normal weather, to gradually get used to rough seas, Captain Nguyen constantly learned from his comrades, "fought" and conquered himself, overcoming the nausea caused by sudden large waves, and standing firm against strong tossing and turning that could have knocked him off balance.
Lieutenant Colonel A Liêng Hà, Political Officer of the Lăng Cô Border Guard Station, highly praised the perseverance and unwavering determination of the young border guard officer. Captain Nguyên has honed his skills, weathered the storms, and demonstrated courage in the face of resistance and aggression, working alongside his comrades to successfully complete patrol duties at sea in the dark of night; apprehending vessels violating regulations and engaging in illegal trawling, protecting marine resources, and restoring peace to fishing villages.
When recounting dangerous situations he faced (such as falling into the sea, being trapped between two ships, etc., while approaching or boarding a vessel violating the law), instead of worrying about his health or life, Captain Nguyen's first thought was that he feared it would affect the entire team's pursuit of the suspect and jeopardize the overall mission.
The commander and his teammates acknowledged Captain Nguyen's sense of responsibility and effective contributions in carrying out his duties. From a team member, Captain Nguyen was entrusted with the role of deputy team leader of the patrol team. He and his teammates mobilized fishermen in particular, and local residents in general, to work together to protect fishing grounds and combat crime and illegal activities at sea.
“In performing his duties and responsibilities, Captain Tran Dinh Nguyen has always upheld a high sense of responsibility, advising the Party Committee and the Unit Command to formulate many appropriate leadership policies and measures; managing the reconnaissance team to successfully complete all assigned tasks, contributing to the firm management and protection of territorial sovereignty and maintaining national border security in all situations. In the fight against crime, Captain Nguyen has advised the Unit Command on developing patrol and ambush plans and participated in coordinating with forces to arrest and handle individuals violating social order and safety, serving as an exemplary figure among the young Border Guard officers of the unit and the Border Guard of Hue City,” said Lieutenant Colonel A Lieng Ha.
