People of Ho Chi Minh City show their love and support.

At 4 PM, Mrs. Nguyet, with her hunched back, trudges into alley 418/8 Tran Phu (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) to begin her work selling dumplings and crab soup, a job she has been doing for over 20 years. Even though she no longer has her older sister by her side.

"With my sister gone, I feel empty…"

The charming inscription on the small dumpling cart, "Hoa Nguyet Sisters," reminds me of two years ago, when I first visited and supported this dumpling cart. I felt so much affection for the elderly Ms. Nguyet, who was diligently selling to customers, sometimes dozing off. Since then, I've often stopped by to eat and support her.

The "Hoa Nguyet Sisters" dumpling cart now only has Mrs. Nguyet left, but customers often stop by to support it.

That day, she confided that her older sister, Hoa, was not in good health and often suffered from severe back pain, so gradually only Nguyet was left to stand and sell goods to earn a few dollars to make ends meet. In their old age, the two sisters relied on each other, living a simple life, yet finding peace and happiness.

A few months ago, Mrs. Hoa passed away at the age of 86, leaving her younger sister alone with her dumpling cart. Speaking to us, Mrs. Nguyet said that although she knew no one could defeat time, her sister's passing was still a sorrow that was hard to overcome, leaving an irreplaceable void in her heart.

Living alone without children to rely on, Mrs. Nguyet still has to continue making a living every day with her dumpling cart. It's also the memento and livelihood of her and her sisters for over two decades, and the elderly woman says she will continue selling until she no longer has the strength to do so.

At the age of 80, Mrs. Nguyet is still working diligently.

The sight of the elderly woman trudging to her usual selling spot every afternoon has endeared her to many customers.

Since Mrs. Hoa passed away, images of Mrs. Nguyet selling dumplings alone have been widely shared on social media. Netizens are calling on each other to visit and support her so she can earn some money. Her dumpling cart, already well-known, has now become even more popular among young people.

"It's thanks to our customers' support that my sister and I have been able to run this business for decades. Some customers have been coming since we first opened. I'm grateful to all the regular and new customers who have always supported us, and I hope to continue receiving your support in the future," she said with a bright, kind smile.

Old age, but not old spirit.

Minh Hoang (27 years old, residing in District 5) said he learned about the dumpling cart of Mrs. Hoa and Mrs. Nguyet more than 3 years ago, after accidentally watching a promotional video on social media. Since his first time eating there, out of sympathy for the two elderly women trying to make a living and because the dumplings were delicious and suited his taste, he often stopped by to eat.

"Her dumplings are incredibly delicious! Since hearing the news of Ms. Hoa's passing, I've felt even more sympathy for Ms. Nguyet and have been visiting her restaurant more regularly. I'm happy that her shop is being shared on social media by many young people, and that people in Saigon are encouraging each other to support her," a customer shared.

Each serving of dumplings is affordably priced but of good quality.

Thao Nhan (22 years old, residing in District 5) said that she occasionally stops by this dumpling stall because it's near her house. In addition, her younger sister also likes to eat them, so she often buys more to take home. Here, each portion of dumplings ranges from 25,000 to 40,000 VND, depending on the quantity, which she considers a reasonable price.

Recently, out of sympathy for Mrs. Nguyet selling goods alone without Mrs. Hoa by her side, a niece came to help. Every day, she travels from District 12 to help Mrs. Hoa prepare everything for the afternoon sales.

Grandma Hoa's eatery frequently goes "viral" in online food groups on social media, receiving great affection from diners in Ho Chi Minh City because of the touching story behind it.

However, it would be difficult for the dumplings to have received such support over the years if they weren't of high quality. Ms. Nguyet agreed with us, saying that she also has her own way of making dumplings, creating a flavor that "wins over" customers from near and far.

Ms. Nguyet has been running a dumpling cart in Cholon, Ho Chi Minh City, for over 20 years.

Every day, Mrs. Nguyet diligently works at her dumpling cart from afternoon until late at night, carrying with her countless memories of her late sister. The support of customers for this dumpling cart is the joy of this elderly woman in her twilight years…
