On the afternoon of February 3rd, Captain Hoang Ngoc Minh, Head of the Vinh Thai Commune Police Station in Vinh Linh District, Quang Tri Province, announced that they had received nearly 160 million VND in donations for Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (55 years old), residing in Tan Mach Hamlet, Vinh Thai Commune, from many generous and unknown individuals. This heartwarming story at the beginning of spring stemmed from Ms. Hoa's difficult family circumstances and the efforts of the Vinh Thai Commune Police to find the person who lost 1.5 million VND.

According to Captain Minh, on the afternoon of January 27th (the 28th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Dragon), Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thuy (42 years old), residing in Tan Mach village, found 1.5 million VND while traveling from Tan Mach village to Thu Luat village. The money was wrapped in a piece of student notebook paper, torn diagonally at about one-third of its length, with two lines of text noting the contents for Tet shopping: "bananas + betel nuts, vegetables + 10 kg of sticky rice".
The Vinh Thai commune police made efforts to find the person who lost the money and on the night of January 27th, they went to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa's house to confirm that she was the rightful owner and return the money. According to the leader of the Vinh Thai commune police, the first thing they saw when they arrived to verify and return the money was that the surrounding neighbors were decorated with flags, lanterns, and flashing lights in preparation for Tet (Lunar New Year), while Ms. Hoa's house was completely the opposite.
In the house, there was an elderly woman lying on the floor due to a congenital disability that prevented her from sleeping on a raised bed, and a child, around the age of 3rd or 4th grade, Hoa's granddaughter, who came to stay with them for Tet. Hoa, with her frail appearance and sad smile, was also there.
"The amount of money lost might not be much to many people, but for Ms. Hoa's circumstances, it's enough for a fulfilling Lunar New Year for her whole family," Captain Minh said.
The Vinh Thai commune police decided to post a video of Ms. Hoa's situation on social media. Heartwarmingly, many kind-hearted people donated to the account of the Vinh Thai commune police chief to help Ms. Hoa.
Before New Year's Eve, the Vinh Thai Commune Police had received over 100 million VND in donations for Ms. Hoa. By the afternoon of February 2nd, the amount had reached nearly 160 million VND. "On February 3rd, we will go to the bank to check the statement and finalize the figure. After that, we, along with the local authorities and the Vinh Linh District Police, will plan how to hand over the money to Ms. Hoa's family," Captain Minh stated.
According to Captain Hoang Ngoc Minh, while out celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year), a police officer from Vinh Thai commune found a considerable sum of money and subsequently returned it to its owner. Specifically, on the morning of February 1st (the 4th day of Tet), Mr. Nguyen Van Minh (born in 1999), residing in Dong Luat village, Vinh Thai commune, found a leather wallet containing some personal documents and over 21 million VND.
After finding the property, Mr. Minh quickly went to the commune police station to report and hand over the found property for verification to find the owner. After receiving the information, the Vinh Tu commune police quickly verified the information and completed the procedures to return the property to the owner, Mr. Le Huu Phuong (born in 1981), residing in Thuy Tu village, Vinh Tu commune.
These two stories are truly meaningful and full of human warmth in the early days of spring 2025.
