Air defense soldiers are searching for targets in the sky.

Standing firm on the battlefield

A combat readiness alert at the 594th Air Defense Company took place in a tense and serious atmosphere. With the mission of protecting Phu Bai International Airport and managing the city's airspace, every operational plan, every key target, and every simulated scenario was meticulously and specifically reviewed; the duty crews practiced thoroughly, ensuring quick and accurate responses, preventing any passive or unexpected situations.

Captain Doan Hai Dang, Deputy Commander of Air Defense Company 594, said: Immediately after receiving directives and orders regarding combat readiness duty during the Lunar New Year of 2026, the unit fully briefed 100% of its officers and soldiers; strictly maintained the duty and combat readiness regime; reviewed and supplemented plans, and was determined to tightly manage the airspace and ensure the absolute safety of assigned targets.

This year's Tet (Lunar New Year) marks the first time Corporal Phan Vinh Phuc is celebrating the holiday in the military. During a short break after his duty shift, Phuc shared: "Although I miss home because it's the first time I've been away from my family during Tet, I feel very warm because of the affection from my commanders and comrades. Celebrating Tet in the army helps me better understand the responsibilities of a soldier, always ready to be on duty, ready to accept and complete tasks so that the people can enjoy a peaceful and joyful Tet."

Not only the 594th Air Defense Company, but all units in the city's armed forces strictly maintain discipline and combat readiness duty. At the Communications Company, officers and soldiers diligently check the transmission system, ensuring uninterrupted communication 24/7. Every stable signal, every secure line is the "lifeline" connecting the command with the unit, ensuring that all orders are transmitted promptly and accurately, contributing to maintaining the initiative in all situations.

Amidst the urgent pace of combat duty, the spring atmosphere still permeates each unit through the simmering pots of sticky rice cakes. The clumsy cakes made by young soldiers, the joyful laughter during the cake-making sessions with local youth union members, created a special Tet (Lunar New Year) – a Tet of camaraderie between the military and the people. This activity not only preserves traditional values but also contributes to strengthening the close, blood-related relationship between the armed forces and the people, further solidifying the "people's support" base.

Maintaining the national defense line, creating momentum for development in the new year.

In the solemn atmosphere of the New Year's flag-raising ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Chairman of the City People's Committee, personally attended, met with, encouraged, and extended New Year greetings to the officers and soldiers of the city's armed forces.

Looking back at 2025 – the first year that Hue City operates as a centrally-governed city – the comrade affirmed: Amidst a mix of opportunities and challenges, the city has achieved significant and comprehensive results in all fields; socio-economic growth has been maintained; people's living standards have been gradually improved; national defense and security have been upheld; social order and safety have been ensured; and the political system has continued to be firmly consolidated. The city's armed forces have made a significant, direct, and sustained contribution to these overall achievements.

Commending the outstanding achievements, the Chairman of the City People's Committee emphasized: The armed forces have proactively grasped the situation, promptly advised the Party Committee and the government on building an increasingly solid defense zone; effectively handled emerging situations, preventing passivity and surprises. In particular, in disaster prevention and control, search and rescue, and flood relief efforts, officers and soldiers have played a core role, directly participating in assisting the people in repairing and rebuilding houses, contributing to strengthening the people's trust in the Party, the government, and the armed forces.

Entering 2026 – a pivotal year for implementing the resolutions of the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term – the Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the armed forces to focus on effectively carrying out key tasks: Continuing to thoroughly understand resolutions and directives on military and national defense tasks; improving the quality of training and combat readiness; strengthening situational awareness and forecasting; proactively coordinating closely with other forces to maintain political security and social order; and actively participating in socio-economic development and building a strong local political foundation.

The city's armed forces need to focus on building strong, comprehensive units that are "exemplary and outstanding," linked with building clean and strong Party organizations; promoting the exemplary role of officers and commanders at all levels; strictly maintaining discipline and order; resolutely fighting against negative manifestations, contributing to enhancing the noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the new era.
