Give love through empathy.
For Ms. Huynh Thi Hong Van (63 years old, Bac Lieu ward), her journey of charitable work did not originate from abundance, but rather from everyday concerns. Every time she witnessed the poor and sick, she felt uneasy. Ms. Van understood that behind poverty was not only a lack of material possessions, but also a feeling of being forgotten.
Ms. Huynh Thi Hong Van visited and presented gifts to families in difficult circumstances in Vinh Trach ward.
It was this empathy that motivated her, after many years of planning, to establish the " Loving Heart" charity group with her friends in 2014. Initially, the charity group had only a few members, but through sincerity and transparency, it spread its influence, attracting many participants and becoming a familiar support system for many disadvantaged people both within and outside the province.
Ms. Van's charitable trips not only bring rice, noodles, medicine, or financial support, but also genuine care and kindness. From cities to remote, mountainous areas, every school bag for children, every warm coat, every small gift package is given with respect, as if giving away a part of her own love.
Among those who received help, the plight of Mrs. Ngoc Phuong from Bac Lieu ward was particularly heartbreaking. Old and living alone in a cramped rented room, she suffers from a life-threatening liver cirrhosis, her health steadily deteriorating. Yet, she still tries to sell lottery tickets to support herself. As her illness worsens and her legs lose the strength to walk, her life is gradually becoming hopeless.
Knowing her situation, Ms. Van and the members of the "Loving Heart" group regularly visited her, providing rice, necessities, and living expenses. The gifts weren't large, but they were enough for Ms. Phuong to feel that she wasn't alone in life.
"With my old age, illness, no relatives, and no place to rely on, if it weren't for the help of Ms. Van and the 'Loving Heart' charity group, my life would have surely fallen into despair," Ms. Phuong shared, her voice choked with emotion.
Ms. Van shared: "The poor need not only money, but also care and support. I hope that in the future, more philanthropists will join hands to share, so that the group can maintain a stable fund, help more people in need, and provide assistance that is meaningful in the long term, not just temporary."
Hearts that care for the community
Working in the banking industry, a job that takes up almost all of his time, Duong Hoang Khang from Long Dien commune still manages to find time during his rare breaks to help the poor and sick. Nearly 15 years dedicated to charitable work, Khang has never allowed himself to be indifferent or turn his back on those less fortunate.
Currently a core member of the Humanitarian Charity Association, Khang always personally surveys and verifies each case. For Khang, helping cannot be done superficially; every penny from benefactors must reach the right people at the right time.
The family of Ms. Pham Thi Dong, residing in Cay Duong hamlet, Long Dien commune, is classified as near-poor, with their livelihood primarily dependent on setting fish traps in the river. Ms. Dong suffers from heart disease and has undergone surgery, but the condition has relapsed severely, accompanied by many dangerous complications. Each day is a battle for survival, and the cost of treatment is becoming a heavy burden for her.
Understanding her situation, the Nhan Ai Charity Association promptly mobilized resources and provided Ms. Dong with 10 million VND. While this amount couldn't cure her illness, it gave her a better chance of treatment and eased some of her immediate worries.
Mr. Duong Hoang Khang, representing the Nhan Ai Charity Association, presented financial assistance for the treatment of critically ill patients.
Each year, the Nhan Ai Charity Association supports dozens of disadvantaged and sick individuals. In 2025 alone, the association assisted 73 cases, with a total amount of nearly 670 million VND. After each assistance, what Khang and the members cherish most is not the number, but the hopeful look in the eyes of those who have been helped.
"A little help when someone is hungry is worth more than a lot when they are full. My help may not solve all their suffering from illness, but at least it helps alleviate their immediate difficulties, gives them more faith to continue living and overcome their fate," Khang shared.
Like Mrs. Van and Mr. Khang, there are still many other compassionate individuals quietly contributing to the poor and actively participating in local social welfare. A prime example is Mrs. Ly Thi Gai, owner of Thuan Thanh eyewear shop in Bac Lieu ward. Not only is she a successful businesswoman, but she is also an active member of the Bac Lieu Buddhist Charity Committee. For many years, she has contributed to building bridges and houses for the needy, supporting medical treatment, giving gifts to poor households and disadvantaged students, and providing eye examinations and eyeglasses to the local people.
Ms. Ly Thi Gai (second from the left) is sponsoring rural road construction projects in Anh Dung hamlet, An Trach commune.
Furthermore, Ms. Ly Ngoc Lua, owner of Tuyet Lua grocery store; Mr. La Thanh De, Vinh Loi commune; Ms. Kim Loan and Ms. Hoang Thi Mai, Bac Lieu ward..., although working in different professions, share a common heart: doing good deeds not for recognition, but to help those less fortunate. These compassionate hearts are daily kindling hope and sowing seeds of faith and love in the lives of the unfortunate. On the journey ahead, with perseverance, dedication, and sincerity, they continue their journey of spreading love, so that life becomes more beautiful and heartwarming with human kindness.
