The Quang Chinh Boer Goat Farm in Ward 3, Bao Loc, currently raises 500 goats. Mr. Vu Quang Chinh, the farm owner, is a farmer born in the 1990s who left the city to start his business in his hometown. He shared: “In 2017, I started my business in livestock farming. After careful research, I realized that the Boer goat breed is high-yielding, suitable for local conditions, and popular in the market. Therefore, I invested in buying 12 breeding goats (1 male and 11 females) and built proper enclosures. After 5 years, the farm now has 500 goats, and more importantly, we have built an alliance of young farmers raising goats together.”

According to Mr. Vu Quang Chinh, Boer goats originate from South Africa, are large in size, have a lot of meat, grow very quickly, and reproduce rapidly. He said that female goats have a 5-month gestation period and give birth to 1-2 kids. After birth, the kids are nursed by their mothers for 2.5 months before being weaned and completely separated from their mothers, switching to a diet mainly of green grass. During the nursing period, the mother goats are bred, and just 4 months after separation, they are ready to give birth to their second litter. "If well cared for, a mother goat can give birth to 2 litters per year, producing 3-4 kids. Therefore, the Boer goat herd multiplies very quickly," Mr. Chinh informed.

Not only are Boer goats prolific breeders, but they also grow very quickly. With a diet consisting mainly of green grass, young goats can grow to 28-35 kg after 5 months, meeting the standards for market. Currently, the price of goat meat is 150-170 thousand VND/kg, while breeding goats are priced at 400 thousand VND/kg. With stable prices and a simple diet, Boer goats are a profitable livestock for farmers. From a single goat farm, Mr. Chinh has built a network of 9 goat farms, mainly comprised of young farmers.

Nguyen Hoang Duy, a young farmer and partner of Quang Chinh farm, said he buys breeding goats from the farm. He also receives guidance on breeding techniques, barn construction, and product sales if needed. “Raising Boer goats requires many secrets. For example, the barn must be built high, 2.5-3 meters above the ground, and the partitions must meet specific standards to prevent the goats from breaking through. Goats must be fed jackfruit leaves regularly to protect their intestines and increase nutrient absorption. Mr. Chinh provides all these techniques to members to ensure the quality of the goat herd, reduce losses, and ensure all members successfully raise goats.” Duy also mentioned that many households participate in the cooperative but have limited capital. They can cooperate by receiving breeding goats to care for, with both sides sharing the profits. This method helps households with limited capital expand their goat herds.

“Raising Boer goats offers a very fast capital turnover, allowing farmers to recover their investment and generate income quickly,” said Mr. Vu Quang Chinh. When establishing partnerships with farming households, the most important factor is the breed. Quang Chinh Farm always provides breeding goats to other farming households, especially those without experience in breeding: “We always supply female goats that have already given birth to one litter to our partners. These breeding goats are healthy, breed quickly, and are safer for farmers, reducing risks compared to raising young goats.”

Reportedly, Mr. Vu Quang Chinh won second prize at the Lam Dong Farmers' Innovation Competition 2025 with his model of a scientific goat farming farm combining education and business. This is a source of pride for the young farmer, marking a trend of collaboration and strengthening the power of farmers in the modern era.
