Tan Uyen is a land endowed by nature with many advantages with a fresh, cool climate suitable for agricultural development, especially the soil and climate are very suitable for tea trees to grow. With an area of nearly 3,400 hectares of tea, of which the commercial tea area reaches nearly 3,100 hectares, the average fresh tea bud yield reaches more than 8.5 tons/ha, the output of fresh tea buds is estimated at nearly 30 thousand tons/year, equivalent to 5,800 tons of dried tea buds of all kinds; bringing in a revenue of more than 200 billion VND/year and solving jobs, stabilizing the lives of about 7,000 local workers.
Tea trees have become a key crop, not only helping Tan Uyen farmers to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, develop the economy , but also contributing greatly to Tan Uyen district's rise to become a new rural district of Lai Chau.
