According to observations in the communes of Nam Ka, Krong No, Dak Phoi, and Lien Son Lak – areas bordering Lam Dong , the "silk capital" – from the beginning of 2026 until now, the price of commercial cocoons has consistently fluctuated at a very high level, ranging from 240,000 to 245,000 VND/kg. This record price has helped many farmers earn tens of millions of VND each month.

Over the years, mulberry cultivation and silkworm rearing have provided a stable income for the family of Ms. Phan Thi Thuan (in Yen Thanh 2 village, Dak Phoi commune). In 2020, recognizing that mulberry trees were suitable for the local climate and soil, she discussed with her husband converting 6 acres of rice paddy land to mulberry cultivation and silkworm rearing. Since then, mulberry trees and silkworms have been an integral part of their lives and have brought stable income to their family.

"During these dry months, we sell two batches of cocoons each month, each batch bringing in about 15 million VND. The high price and wide market allow us to confidently maintain and invest further," said Mrs. Thuan.

Also in Yen Thanh 2 village, mulberry cultivation and silkworm rearing have become the main source of income for Ms. To Thi Nguyet's family. Ms. Nguyet shared that initially she only hoped to "make a profit from her labor," but the results far exceeded expectations. With a stable mulberry plantation, her family sells 80-100 kg of cocoons per harvest. With the current price of commercial cocoons, Ms. Nguyet's family earns hundreds of millions of dong annually, many times higher than growing rice.

Not only in Dak Phoi, but mulberry cultivation and silkworm farming have also taken root in Lien Son Lak commune and become a lifeline for many households. Ms. Ha Thi Sam's family (Thai village) once had 1 hectare of single-crop rice land that was unstable due to the lack of a reliable irrigation water source. In 2019, after researching, she decided to go to Lam Dong to buy mulberry seedlings to plant.

After the mulberry trees thrived, her family began raising silkworms for cocoons. Despite initial setbacks due to silkworm diseases, Ms. Sam has now mastered the technical process. Currently, her family sells two batches of cocoons per month, each batch weighing approximately 60 kg, earning around 12-15 million VND per batch.

Thanks to the mulberry cultivation and silkworm farming model, the family of Ms. Ha Thi Sam (Thai village, Lien Son Lak commune) has a stable monthly income.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Giang, Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Dak Phoi commune, assessed that the success of mulberry cultivation and silkworm farming models in Dak Phoi commune and neighboring areas confirms that boldly transforming the crop structure is the right step, opening up a new direction for household economies .
