This has led to them launching a boycott campaign called #NoToMadueke.
BBC Sports reported that a #NoToMadueke petition had been created and garnered over 4,000 signatures on X (formerly Twitter). Murals outside Arsenal's Emirates Stadium were also vandalized with the words "Arteta out." At 23, Madueke is already an England international. So why are some people against signing him?
Arsenal have signed six players from Chelsea in recent years. And Madueke will be the second player in this transfer window, after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Arsenal fans believe their club should pursue bigger names like Real Madrid's Rodrygo or Crystal Palace striker Eberechi Eze. Meanwhile, Madueke is only a reserve player at Chelsea and has yet to show his talent.
Responding to a post on the Arsenal page, fan Steve said: "It's really not impressive that we're spending so much money on a reserve player. Some Arsenal fans were hoping to get Rodrygo."
But now that's not happening because Arsenal don't have the money to spend. Is Madueke the kind of player who will help you win the Premier League? No. Rodrygo is the one who can help Arsenal achieve that goal. That's why Arsenal fans are disappointed."
However, alongside the criticism, there are also many who support manager Arteta in signing Madueke. Arsenal season ticket holder Andrew said, "The people signing this petition aren't real Arsenal fans. They live in some kind of parallel fantasy world on social media where football is treated like a video game."
I'm a season ticket holder and I trust manager Arteta and his judgment. Madueke may not be an exciting signing right now, but he could prove to be a very good one. Let's see how things unfold."
