This has led to them launching a boycott campaign called #NoToMadueke.
BBC Sports reports that a #NoToMadueke petition has been set up on X (formerly Twitter) and has attracted more than 4,000 signatures. Murals outside Arsenal's Emirates Stadium have also been vandalised with the words "Arteta out". At 23, Madueke is already an England international. So why are some people against signing him?
Arsenal have signed six players from Chelsea in recent years, and Madueke will be their second in this transfer window, after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Arsenal fans have suggested that their club should pursue bigger names such as Real Madrid's Rodrygo or Crystal Palace striker Eberechi Eze. Madueke, meanwhile, has been a bench player at Chelsea and has yet to show any real promise.
Responding to a post on the Arsenal page, fan Steve said: "It's really not impressive that we spent so much money on a reserve player. Some Arsenal fans were hoping for Rodrygo.
But that's not happening now because Arsenal don't have the money to spend. Is Madueke the type of player who will win you the Premier League? No. Rodrygo is the one who can do that for Arsenal. That's why Arsenal fans are disappointed."
But despite the criticism, there were also many supporters of Arteta's decision to sign Madueke. Arsenal season ticket holder Andrew said: "The people who signed this petition are not true Arsenal fans. They live in some parallel fantasy world on social media where football is seen as a video game.
I am a season ticket holder and I trust Arteta and his judgement. Madueke may not be an exciting signing at the moment. But he could prove to be a very good signing. We will see how it goes."
