Meritorious Artist Hong Vy was born in 1979 in Hai Lang, Quang Tri , the daughter of the late People's Artist Doan Tan and singer Minh Hong. Hong Vy is one of the prominent figures in the classical and revolutionary music genres.

With her beautiful voice and soaring high notes, Hong Vy has won numerous awards in the field of singing. Her three solo albums: Hoa Lua Va Vy, Vinh Quang Viet Nam , and Giac Mo Mua La, have all been highly acclaimed not only in the classical music genre but also in the broader music market.

In June 2019, the Meritorious Artist discovered she had stage 4 ovarian cancer. After surgery and chemotherapy, her cancer markers dropped, and the singer felt healthier. Undeterred, the singer, born in 1979, bravely faced her illness, continuing her daily work of singing and teaching. She also remained optimistic and rarely shared details about her illness with others.

By March 2021, her cancer indicators were gradually increasing, and Hong Vy's health was steadily declining. In her final days, Meritorious Artist Hong Vy suffered from edema in both legs, cancer cells had metastasized throughout her body, and her intestines were necrotic.
