After two consecutive days of traffic congestion due to traffic adjustments, the Khuat Duy Tien - Nguyen Trai intersection (Hanoi) was more open on the morning of January 20. However, due to fear of traffic congestion, many people went into small alleys, causing Nguyen Xien Street to be jammed.
On the morning of January 20, at the beginning of the week, after 2 consecutive days of prolonged traffic congestion due to traffic adjustment, the Khuat Duy Tien - Nguyen Trai intersection was more open.
Previously, from 6am on January 18, the Hanoi Department of Transport piloted traffic organization adjustment at the Khuat Duy Tien - Nguyen Trai - Nguyen Xien intersection. This is a point where traffic congestion is often observed.
Khuat Duy Tien Street is the same, people are no longer as crowded as before.
However, at Nguyen Xien Street, near Pham Tu intersection, traffic was congested at nearly 8am this morning.
Motorbikes on the sidewalk are as crowded as a shuttle.
The road was jammed, some people even turned around and chose another direction, causing the road to become even more locally congested.
Talking to Dan Viet reporter, Ms. Hoang Lan said that her child studies at Kim Giang Secondary School, however, she was worried about the traffic jam on Nguyen Xien Street towards Hoang Dao Thanh, so she chose to go through the small alley at the end of Pham Tu Street. However, the further in, the more congested it became. "In that situation, I couldn't move forward or back, so I had to squeeze my way through the traffic jam. On a day like this, close to Tet, I see traffic jams everywhere," Ms. Lan shared.
Because of fear of traffic jams like the previous two days, many people "turned around" and chose another direction. According to Dan Viet reporters, at nearly 8am, instead of going towards Khuat Duy Tien intersection, many people turned to the end of Pham Tu street in the direction of Kim Giang, causing serious traffic jams on this section.
Many alleys were jammed with people, unable to move. Faced with this situation, many people tried to turn back but had to wait for the traffic to gradually clear. Mr. Hoang Van Minh (in Hoang Mai district) said that he usually goes to work on the route from Nguyen Xien to Khuat Duy Tien. However, in the past two days, when he heard that this intersection had adjusted the traffic organization, he was afraid and changed to another route. When he got to the Nguyen Xien section, which was too congested, I decided to turn into the alley of Pham Tu street, but I did not expect the traffic to be even more congested. At this intersection, many people were flustered, causing the traffic to be even more congested," Mr. Minh sighed.
However, at the Khuat Duy Tien - Nguyen Trai intersection, after listening to the people's opinions, traffic was adjusted to be quite smooth. The roundabout section was also narrowed to create open space for people to move.
Traffic police and traffic inspectors also had less trouble than the previous two days.
Previously, on the morning of January 19, Mr. Nguyen Phi Thuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Transport, and related forces were present at the Khuat Duy Tien - Nguyen Trai intersection to find a solution to resolve the traffic jam as well as adjust the direction and traffic light signals.
Here, some traffic lights were turned off. In addition, the authorities narrowed the roundabout, painted lines to indicate straight and left turns at intersections and roundabouts, and adjusted traffic lights appropriately and flexibly to clear traffic at this "hot spot".
Traffic police have less trouble adjusting traffic signals.
