For YouTubers, one of the most coveted achievements is receiving a Creator Award. According to the award criteria, the platform will give a prize when the channel reaches a certain number of subscribers.
The rewards include various types of Play buttons corresponding to different subscriber milestones. However, not every channel that reaches the required number of subscribers will receive the button; they must still meet other requirements from the platform.
The Ruby Play Button used to be awarded to YouTube channels that reached 50 million subscribers. Currently, the award no longer appears in YouTube's FAQ section under Creator Awards. This indicates that the Ruby Play Button is no longer an official award.
Initially, the ruby button was called the Custom Play Button, meaning the award would be custom-made for its owner. PewDiePie, the famous gamer and YouTuber, was the first to receive this button. Because of its ruby-red design, he named the award after it.
However, the design and color of each ruby button are different, making each channel unique. For example, the Indian channel T-Series received a transparent, diamond-shaped button. The button for the South Korean girl group BlackPink is pink and black, reflecting the group's brand, and features the YouTube Play icon.

To receive awards, you first need to reach the required number of subscribers. Once that's done, YouTube will automatically review your channel to ensure its growth is natural and not fraudulent.
"Before receiving an award, channels must go through an evaluation process. This process includes checking whether the creator maintains their channel in good standing, does not violate copyright or Community Guidelines, does not manipulate subscriber counts, among other criteria," the official YouTube Awards website states.
According to Qqtube , some of the conditions for receiving the button include the channel must have uploaded videos within the last 6 months, not violate Community Guidelines, partner program rules, and not be linked to suspended sites. Additionally, the channel's content must be original, of good quality, and free from spam and re-edited content from other channels.
If the platform determines that a channel deserves a Play Button, it will send a notification, including a redemption code, via YouTube Studio within a week of reaching the required subscriber count. Users need to enter the code on a special page, as well as the channel name and shipping address, to request the button by mail .
By early August, 92 channels had surpassed 50 million subscribers, according to data from the social media analytics platform Social Blade. However, the number of channels receiving the ruby button was very small (around 10 channels), not including some channels that have not yet confirmed receiving this award.
The two most recent channels to confirm ownership include KL Bro Biju (India) and JuegaGerman (Spain). Other channels, such as America's Got Talent, received the ruby button at 20 million subscribers, and MrBeast for milestones of 200 and 400 million subscribers.
The YouTube channel with the most subscribers in Vietnam currently is ToRung (58 million), which is also the only channel that meets the minimum requirements to receive the Ruby Play Button. Following closely behind is the channel of Ben Eagle, whose real name is Trinh Cong Tuan, with over 45 million subscribers. He shared on his personal page that the Ruby Play Button is his next goal.
