According to locals, the Bo guava variety originated about 200 years ago. The original Bo guava tree grew on the hedge of Mr. Pham Huu Thien's house, belonging to the Pham Huu family in Bo Xuyen village. Initially, the Bo guava was called pear guava. When unripe, the fruit was green and had an astringent taste; when ripe, the skin turned white. When cut open, it had thick flesh, a small core, and only a small ring of seeds. It had a fragrant, crunchy taste, soft seeds, and segmented edges like a pear, hence the name pear guava. During the guava season, villagers brought their guavas to the foot of the Bo bridge to sell, and from then on, the name Bo guava gradually became familiar to the locals.
To obtain high-quality, delicious guavas of the pure Bo guava variety, the trees must be planted on the original soil of the village – a light, fertile, non-degraded sandy alluvial soil. If planted in other soils for a long time, the fruit will be small, like the local guava variety. Annually, the Bo guava variety flowers from around March of the lunar calendar and the fruit is harvested around mid-July of the lunar calendar.

Bo guava is special not only because of its delicious flavor but also because of its unique way of enjoying it: when picking guavas, you must use a hoe; when eating guavas, you shouldn't use a knife to cut them, as that will make the guava taste sour. It's best eaten in a simple, rustic way, whole, biting into each piece to savor its distinctive flavor. First, you'll taste a slight astringency, then a mild sourness, followed by a sweet, fragrant, and refreshing taste. This sweetness and aroma make those who have eaten Bo guava once remember it forever and recognize the difference between Bo guava and other guava varieties, especially the hybrid guavas available today.
It is precisely these unique flavors that have made Bo guava a specialty imbued with the spirit of the countryside, reminding those far away to always remember their homeland and roots.
