The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has agreed to hold an emergency ministerial meeting online on July 31 to discuss the recent repeated blasphemy of the Koran in Sweden. and Denmark.

In a statement on July 26, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said that the OIC meeting was held at the joint proposal of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein. He said Iranian Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian also discussed holding an emergency meeting with OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha.

The OIC has agreed to hold an emergency meeting in light of recent anti-Islamists in Sweden and Denmark who have repeatedly committed acts of blasphemy against the Koran, including burning copies of the Koran. . A series of Muslim countries, including Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, Bahrain... have strongly opposed the above behaviour. Meanwhile, Denmark and Sweden have issued statements regretting the recent burning of the Koran, but said it could not be prevented due to the provisions of the law.

The same day, the United Nations General Assembly (UN) adopted a resolution to promote interreligious and intercultural dialogue to combat hate speech.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry issued a statement welcoming the move. "Insults and contempt for beliefs and religions can lead to polarization between societies and trigger acts of extremism," the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement. These behaviors often lead to anger and conflict, turning differences of opinion into hatred and violence. There is therefore a need to combat hatred in all its forms and all countries should step up to address this situation in accordance with international human rights law.

 In related developments, on July 26, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson warned that the country was being targeted by disinformation campaigns that took advantage of the wave of protests against blasphemy acts. Koran recently.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Prime Minister Kristersson emphasized that "Sweden is now the target of influence campaigns" to damage the image and interests of the country. According to him, recent acts of burning copies of the Koran coincide with the "difficult security situation" in Sweden. These cases were then spread falsely, even accompanied by calls to harm Sweden.
