Nghiem (Tien Loc) is a police officer who, due to his work commitments and reserved nature, lacks communication skills and therefore marries late. When he is introduced to Trang (Bich Ngoc), a gentle, understanding, and beautiful kindergarten teacher, the two quickly get married. As a result, their relationship lacks deep understanding, and conflicts gradually arise in their lives.
In particular, Nghiêm angered Trang and the audience with his rigid and tactless behavior. He refused to interact with Trang's friends, even though he knew they were his wife's friends, yet he still acted coldly and punished them according to the law.
The conflict escalated in episode 5 when Nghiem let his wife go back to her father's hometown alone for the memorial service. In reality, the couple had planned the trip for a long time, and Nghiem had even taken leave from work. However, just before leaving, Nghiem received a request to help handle a traffic accident, so he agreed and let his wife carry a lot of luggage back to her hometown first.
After discovering that the accident victim was his ex-girlfriend, Nghiem thoughtfully took her to the hospital. Meanwhile, back home, Trang was being severely scolded by her mother for not returning home because her husband hadn't come. Her mother was also embarrassed in front of relatives because her son-in-law hadn't come for her father's memorial service.
This situation angered viewers, who criticized the character Nghiêm for being "lazy at home but diligent with his ex-girlfriend," and "kind to everyone except his wife." Viewers commented that Nghiêm clearly didn't take his wife's family and feelings seriously, which is why he acted so insensitively. This is also a common story for many husbands in society. Therefore, this situation received sympathy from many female viewers.
Actor Tien Loc, who plays Nghiem, said that from the moment he received the script, he knew the character Nghiem would face criticism from viewers. However, he wanted to portray a multifaceted and diverse character.
"My job is to dissect the family circumstances of my characters to bring a multifaceted perspective on contemporary life to the audience, because if all families were the same, there would be nothing for the audience to see. In real life, I've witnessed many families that are far more strained than Nghiêm and Trang's family," actor Tiến Lộc shared.
