According to Carscoops , the automotive market has recently seen more bright and striking exterior color options, but customers still primarily choose cars with paint finishes in neutral colors, including white, black, gray, or silver.

A study conducted by iSeeCars shows that the global automotive industry in 2025 will continue to be dominated by neutral colors.

White was the dominant color, chosen by 25.7% of customers, while black and gray followed closely with 23.4% and 22.9% respectively. Including silver, this neutral color palette appeared on 80.4% of cars sold last year.

Compared to 30 years ago, the proportion of cars in neutral colors has increased dramatically. Specifically, in 1996, research showed that only 47.3% of cars sold had exterior colors of white, black, gray, or silver.

Between 1996 and 2025, the market share of exterior colors such as gold and purple decreased by nearly 100%. Sales of brown and green cars decreased by approximately 84% during the same period, while beige sales declined by 73.8%.

Grey sales surged by 528.4% compared to 1996, while black sales increased by 64.5%. The number of white cars chosen by customers also increased by 16.7%, solidifying its position as the most preferred exterior color.
