Diverse customer needs

Observations at most supermarkets and convenience stores in the area, such as WinMart+, Hoa Bien, JolliMart, Bao Tram, Danavi Mart, VinCom, MM Market, LotteMart, etc., show that they have launched many fresh fruits, packaged foods, and various types of confectionery.

Some stores specializing in Tet (Lunar New Year) products, such as Tam An and Dao Hien, also offer new products like: green-skinned pink pomelo (from the Southwestern region), organic Hong Kim cantaloupe (Da Lat), bird's nest dragon fruit (Tien Giang), Tien Vua red pomelo, and Sim tangerine ( Hoa Binh )...

Meanwhile, at JolliMart supermarket on Yen Bai Street, dried fruits are expected to continue to be popular...

In the ready-to-eat packaged food segment, products predicted to see increased demand include sausages, beef, various types of crab sticks, and fish balls, which are experiencing fairly good sales.

At major supermarkets, a slight increase in demand is expected during this period for popular dried herbs including: basil, bay leaves, celery leaves, chives, coriander, dill, parsley, juniper, marjoram, oregano, rosemary, sage, saltbush, mint, and thyme.

This contributes to increasing the choices available to shoppers during the traditional Lunar New Year, in addition to the traditional spices already familiar in Vietnamese meals.

New flavors on the shelves.

The main focus in supermarkets and stalls selling Tet holiday goods remains the Tet gift baskets, available in a wide variety of types and price ranges.

What makes this year's Tet gift baskets unique is that local specialty products account for nearly 90% of the items in each basket.

According to the survey, supermarkets are preparing Tet gift baskets with a focus on regional specialties and OCOP products such as: Central Highlands macadamia nuts, Ha Giang Shan Tuyet tea, Thai Nguyen tea, Ben Tre coconut jam, Ca Mau dried shrimp, Nam O fish sauce, local fruit wines, and Co Tu rice wine…

According to Ms. Le Thi Hien, Director of Co.opMart Son Tra supermarket, the supermarket is supplying exclusive fruit products with printed inscriptions for the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, such as pomelos and coconuts engraved with the words "May all your wishes come true - Wealth and prosperity"; "Happiness, prosperity, and longevity".

Items for the Lunar New Year have been stocked on shelves by retail systems in abundant quantities and diverse designs, accompanied by multi-stage promotional programs to stimulate early shopping.

Up to this point, supermarket chains have recorded a significant increase in the purchase of Tet gift baskets compared to normal days.

"The trend for Tet gift baskets is towards smaller quantities but increased perceived value. From a consumer perspective, people are willing to choose gift baskets costing 200,000, 300,000, 500,000, or even over 1 million VND, but prioritize 'authentic' components such as quality tea, nuts, jams, local spices, and domestically produced health care products," Ms. Hien said.

After browsing various supermarkets and stores, Ms. Bui Thi Van Anh expressed: "My family still maintains the traditional Vietnamese Tet customs with banh chung, banh tet, pickled vegetables, and pork marinated in fish sauce, but we also need to add new and interesting dishes to enhance the flavors of Tet and to explore new tastes in the global food industry."

Nowadays, finding new food sources isn't too difficult, as they are widely available in large supermarkets or specialized stores.

Lunar New Year is not only a time for family reunions, but also a time for consumption, for exchanging gift baskets, and for the stories conveyed in each product.

Therefore, in recent years, the goods market has witnessed a strong transformation with a diverse range of imported products, demonstrating the trend of consumers in the city seeking new flavors for Tet (Lunar New Year).
