On the morning of July 22nd, high schools in Ho Chi Minh City began accepting applications for supplementary admissions. This is considered a "last chance" for students who failed to get into any of their three preferred public high schools.

At Le Thi Hong Gam High School (District 3), a large number of parents arrived early in the morning to register for supplementary admissions.

Ms. Nguyen Mai (from Hoc Mon district) said her son scored 15.25 points on the entrance exam. After the announcement of the supplementary admissions, the family planned to register him at Binh Tan High School (Binh Tan district) because he had just met the score requirement, and the distance from their home to the school was about 15km. However, this morning the family changed their decision.

"Binh Tan High School only has 20 additional slots available. If the school selects students from highest to lowest scores, it's likely that my child will be admitted before the school fills all the slots. Therefore, my family has to prioritize schools with a large number of additional slots to increase our chances of getting into a public high school," said Ms. Mai.

From early morning, a large number of parents came to register their children for supplementary admissions.

Mr. MH said that although they live in Binh Tan District, his son has been studying in District 1 for many years. When he heard that public high schools were recruiting additional students, he took his son everywhere to register, hoping that a school would accept him.

Pointing to his middle school report card, which showed he was an excellent student for four consecutive years, Mr. MH said emotionally, "My son scored 14 points on the entrance exam, but the supplementary admission score for the school is 15 points. I tried submitting his application, but the school returned it because he didn't meet the requirements. The schools with suitable admission scores for my son are very far away, about 20km or more."

The father and son plan to visit a few more schools in Ho Chi Minh City this morning, and if they don't find anything suitable, they will return to register for vocational education or continuing education programs.

This year, Le Thi Hong Gam High School is recruiting an additional 38 students. In just the first morning, the school's supplementary enrollment Zalo group had over 80 parents join.

Eligible candidates will submit their exam scores and leave their contact phone number. If accepted, the school will notify them to complete the necessary enrollment documents.

Ms. Nguyen Phuong (District 12) said that she didn't dare put down her phone all morning, and the more members she saw joining, the more worried she became.

"According to regulations, applicants are only allowed to submit applications to one school. Although my child has 0.5 points more than the required score, I still can't rest easy because this is the last chance for my child to get into a public high school," Ms. Phuong confided.

This year, Thanh Da High School (Binh Thanh District) is recruiting an additional 47 students, and has already received 20 applications this morning.

Similarly, a large number of parents came to Dao Son Tay High School (Thu Duc City) on the first day of registration.

Most high schools conducting supplementary admissions are located in suburban areas. Among them, Phong Phu High School (Binh Chanh District) has the highest number of places with 300, followed by Nguyen Van Linh High School (District 8), An Nhon Tay High School (Cu Chi District), and Nguyen Van Tang High School (Thu Duc City).

Candidates wishing to apply for supplementary admissions can register from July 22nd to 5 PM on July 27th at the high schools offering supplementary admissions. On August 6th, the schools will announce the list of successful candidates for supplementary admissions.
