Present in Xuan Canh commune at the launch of bookcases, officers and soldiers in the border guard force, students and people here were extremely excited.
Meaningful activities
To form these two bookcases, the Provincial Library gave each village 2 copies of books of all genres on economics, politics, culture, society, Vietnam's sovereignty over sea and islands, new rural construction..., worth nearly 300 million VND.
Books are teachers and friends, a product created by the human mind and soul, and a treasure of human knowledge. Reading not only improves knowledge, skills, develops educational thinking but also trains human personality. Therefore, the construction of bookcases in residential areas, especially areas with many difficulties and sea areas, is a very meaningful activity.
Ms. Vo Thi Thanh Thao, a resident of Hoa My village shared: “Reading is a useful activity. Therefore, in the locality where there is a bookcase with many genres like this, our coastal people are very happy. We will encourage our children to come and read books here to expand their knowledge and contribute to spreading the reading culture.”
According to a representative of the Provincial Library, the orientation for children to come to the bookcase is to help them discover a new world, escape from the virtual world in cyberspace with many temptations and many risks. This is also gradually becoming one of the important criteria in orienting a healthy lifestyle for children of parents. At school age, forming a habit of reading books, making friends with books will help them develop better in understanding, living capital, how to behave, share with others, and improve their ability to express themselves in spoken and written language.
Pham Tran Nha Uyen, a student of grade 6A Vo Nguyen Giap Middle and High School (Xuan Canh commune) came to the bookcase on the day of the launch, confiding: “I love reading books. From reading books, I find a lot of useful information and knowledge, for learning and also good and meaningful stories about good people and good deeds. In particular, my favorite reading is the book Stories about Uncle Ho. Therefore, when I have a bookcase, I will come here to read on my break."
Developing reading culture
According to Mr. Ly Van Loi, Vice Chairman of Xuan Canh Commune People's Committee, the formed bookcase contributes to propagating and improving the reading culture of the people as well as cultivating the spirit of studiousness among young people in the area, creating a space, inspiring, and reading habits for many people. “This is a place where anyone who loves, wants to read and learn knowledge from books can come and read. I hope the bookcase will help people get acquainted and develop the habit of reading, especially with students," Mr. Loi said.
Ms. Vo Thi Nguyen Hue, Deputy Director of the Provincial Library said that the establishment of bookcases in residential areas aims to promote the existing resources and potentials of the Provincial Library to develop programs and organize educational activities; promoting activities of propaganda, circulation and service of books, bringing light of knowledge to people, especially students in places where material and spiritual conditions are still difficult. This also maintains and develops a reading culture, serving the lifelong learning needs of each individual, contributing to raising the sense of self-study, self-training, and improving the quality and effectiveness of education.
“With that in mind, the Provincial Library will continue to organize book giveaways for localities facing many difficulties in order to improve the level of spiritual cultural enjoyment, create conditions for people to access and enjoy many good and beautiful books, contributing to fostering reading culture and reading skills for everyone. Thereby contributing to the completion of the Provincial People's Committee's plan on implementing the projects "Building a learning society in the period of 2021-2030", "Developing a reading culture in the community in the period of 2022-2025, with a vision to 2030" and the program "Promoting the lifelong learning movement in families, clans, communities, and units in the 2021-2030 period" in the province.
