In her speech, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Lien Huong affirmed that this year's event took place at a time when the World Health Organization (WHO) marked many important milestones.
The first is the 75th anniversary of the founding of the WHO. During this time, Vietnam has achieved many great achievements in the health sector, for example, the average life expectancy of people has been raised to more than 75 years and the work of poverty reduction has made remarkable progress.
Today, Vietnam continues to reform the health sector to meet future healthcare needs, especially in the context of rapid socio-economic development and lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Lien Huong also mentioned the recent WHO announcement that the COVID-19 pandemic is no longer a public health emergency of international concern.
She said Vietnam has launched a COVID-19 vaccination campaign with a wide scale and rapid speed in 2 and 2021, ensuring the vaccine reaches every part of the country.
The data show that Vietnam achieved an average of 273,7 doses of COVID-19 vaccine injected per 100 people, 1,6 times higher than the worldwide average (170,1) and higher than most developed countries; The rate of full basic dose injection in Vietnam is 1,4 times higher and the rate of booster injection is 2 times higher than the world average.
Thanks to these efforts, from the beginning of 2022 until now, Vietnam has moved into the stage of 'sustainable management' of the COVID-19 epidemic - balancing socio-economic development with public health measures to protect vulnerable people and the health system.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Lien Huong affirmed that Vietnam highly values WHO's close technical partnership with the Vietnamese Government.
In addition, Vietnam is also proud of all the health achievements it has achieved with the support of WHO during the COVID-19 pandemic and over the years, and looks forward to continuing this partnership.
