Along with Spanish researcher David Moreno, Pique participated in analyzing the development model of the Kings League, the 7-a-side football league he founded and which has become a sensation recently. According to data from the sports finance website Palco23 , in its first year, the Kings League recorded revenue of 20 million euros.
Experts believe that Kings League has become a beloved sports entertainment product thanks to its inspiring story, groundbreaking competition format, and strong connection with the community.
This 7-a-side football tournament on artificial turf was first held on January 1, 2023, and quickly expanded to include men's and women's tournaments in Spain and Mexico, as well as men's tournaments in Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, the Middle East, North Africa, and soon in the United States.
Pique shared: “It is an honor that the Kings League model has been analyzed at a prestigious university like Harvard. This research confirms the impact of the work we have done.”
In 2017, Pique also attended a four-day short-term training course at Harvard. After retiring from football, the former Spanish national team center-back focused on business development, co-founding and running Kosmos Global Holding, a diversified company, with several partners.
In addition to the Kings League, Piqué also acquired a stake in the Andorra club in the Spanish lower division, invested in esports, and holds the governing body for the Davis Cup in tennis.
