Lionel Messi has been fined by Paris Saint-Germain for violating club rules, according to ESPN. The Argentine will not train, play or receive a salary for two weeks.
The incident stemmed from Lionel Messi's trip to Saudi Arabia. After the match against Lorient, the Argentine superstar left the team to make a scheduled trip to fulfill contractual obligations with a partner in Saudi Arabia.
However, coach Christoph Galtier and sporting director Luis Campos only agreed to let Messi do so if PSG won. In fact, the Parc des Princes team lost to Lorient but Messi did not change his schedule.
Messi received a penalty for violating club regulations.
Messi did not ask permission and was absent from training on Monday. This caused tension in the PSG dressing room. Many players expressed dissatisfaction with Messi's behavior. Therefore, the Parc des Princes team had to issue a penalty to warn the Argentine superstar's actions.
The punishment comes as Messi and PSG are at an impasse in contract negotiations. Many sources in France said that the Parc des Princes team does not want to keep the Argentine superstar.
Messi also received interest from Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal team and Inter Miami of the US professional league.
A part of PSG fans strongly criticized Messi. They thought that Messi lacked the determination and motivation to lead PSG to success. With a salary of 40 million euros a season, Messi was expected to lead PSG to the top of Europe. However, this team failed in both seasons that Messi played for.
