The disciplinary regulations are outdated.

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên28/05/2024

The reason given by the Disciplinary Committee of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) for fining coach Vu Tien Thanh 20 million VND but not suspending his coaching rights is that, according to the Disciplinary Regulations, anyone who makes statements that negatively affect the image of Vietnamese football, the reputation of the league and the VFF will be fined (at least 10 million VND) or suspended from duty for a specified period.

Furthermore, according to the VFF Disciplinary Committee's explanation, Coach Vu Tien Thanh's statement was personal in nature, so the VFF Disciplinary Committee did not want to suspend the HAGL coach's coaching rights, as they did not want to negatively impact the team.

Coach Vu Tien Thanh often reacts strongly.

Mr. Vu Tien Thanh made an official statement at a press conference after a V-League match (the match between Ho Chi Minh City FC and LPBank HAGL in Round 21 of the V-League on May 25). No one in a personal capacity was allowed to enter the press conference room that day to speak publicly.

Mr. Vu Tien Thanh entered the press conference room as the head coach of HAGL Club, representing the club to answer questions from the national media, knowing for sure that his statement would be broadcast, rather than answering in a personal capacity.

Secondly, the practice of individuals being held jointly responsible for their actions is not unprecedented in Vietnamese football. For example, when some unruly Hai Phong fans previously set off flares and caused disorder in the stands, Hai Phong Club was still fined and had its stadium suspended for a period of time.

Therefore, it's impossible to say that the collective is not responsible for an individual's actions, because first, we must consider the capacity in which that individual appeared in public. If they appeared as a member of the club, then it's even less acceptable to say that it's solely their personal matter!

Furthermore, if the regulations on rewards and penalties of the V-League and the VFF regarding similar behaviors lack sufficient technical measures to adequately address the aforementioned actions, then it is time for the VFF and its Executive Committee to sit down and change those outdated decisions that lack sufficient deterrent power.

Football is always moving forward, and regulations that are not suitable need to be adjusted to keep up with that trend.

The purpose of this feedback is to be constructive, not to challenge or attack.

Actually, the main content related to Coach Vu Tien Thanh's statement is not new. Coach Bui Doan Quang Huy of Binh Dinh team commented: "Binh Dinh team had to play 7 matches in less than a month, from May 4th to May 30th. Do you see any other tournament in the world like that? We accept the rules of the game. But we think the organizers should reconsider, to make it better for the players next season."

That's constructive feedback; point out what's wrong, and where compliance is necessary, we must comply. Such feedback needs to be listened to in order to make appropriate adjustments in the future.

KHA HOA

Coach Vu Tien Thanh stated: “Scheduling matches every four days is unacceptable and overloads the players. I only manage the team, I don't play directly, and even I'm tired and stressed. The organization is terrible. The VFF needs to intervene. If we complain, they'll say, 'Why are you playing?' 'I'm too passionate about it, so I have to play, I have to live with it.' How to live with it? You can ask Chairman Duc. The people working at the VPF are very incompetent, extremely incompetent. I said they should be fined. Organizing matches every four days, and then there's the refereeing. Those people lack the ability to do their job. From 1980 until now, Vietnamese football has remained the same, nothing has changed. Even the tunnels leading to the stadium look depressing, lacking any technology, which is why I said the National Cup is like a local league… Vietnamese football is regressing in terms of prosperity.”

Regarding the same incident, but with two different statements, Coach Vu Tien Thanh's response lacked the composure of his counterpart leading the Binh Dinh team. Furthermore, Coach Thanh's statement seemed to challenge the VFF to "punish" him.

Therefore, Mr. Thanh should have been punished more severely to prevent such statements from escalating tensions between the V-League organizers and the clubs.

As mentioned, football is always evolving, but anything that isn't right in the current season needs to be adjusted, and the league has already planned to adjust the schedule for the new season to align with the overall movement of FIFA Days.

No one can do everything perfectly at once; difficulties are shared by all teams, and neither the VFF nor the VPF are shifting all the burden onto Coach Vu Tien Thanh's HAGL team. Furthermore, the match schedule was established before the current season began. The VPF consulted with the teams before seeking approval from the VFF Executive Committee.

Even assuming that the current V-League schedule is flawed, experts like coach Vu Tien Thanh and members of the clubs should have offered suggestions to the league from the outset, instead of waiting for the situation to escalate before using it as an excuse to attack their own competition!
