Nguyen Manh Duy, born in 1985, graduated from the Academy of Journalism and Communication and worked at the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper from 2005 to 2015. In May 2014, he went to the Himalayas and began his research journey on the culture of this region. "Himalayan: Land of Fire and Air" is a combination of photography, essays, and cultural reflections, offering a deep insight into the spiritual life of the Himalayan people.
Besides his research and cultural studies, Nguyen Manh Duy has conquered three peaks over 8,000m in the Himalayas, including Everest – known as the "roof of the world ". However, according to the author, what keeps him drawn to the Himalayas is not only the majestic peaks, but also the unique cultural and spiritual life of this region.
In nearly 500 pages of full-color illustrations, Nguyen Manh Duy captures majestic natural scenes and indigenous life, while also explaining the layers of cultural meaning hidden within each image. According to the author, the book was created with the desire to become a bridge helping Vietnamese readers connect more closely with Himalayan culture – where nature, people, and beliefs intertwine to form a unique spiritual ecosystem.

Sharing at the program, Nguyen Manh Duy said that 90% of the photos in the book were taken with a film camera, evoking a sense of nostalgia and a timeless color palette. The author said that each image in the book is a memento of a journey in which he was deeply transformed by the energy of the Himalayas; without the Himalayas, he wouldn't be who he is today. Therefore, he wanted to dedicate this photo book first and foremost to himself, and then to readers, those who love the Himalayas as much as he does.
