The Ministry of Transport has recently sent a document to the People's Committee of Lam Dong province regarding the renovation and upgrading of the Da Lat - Trai Mat railway line infrastructure.
The Ministry of Transport announced that it has assigned Bach Dang Hotel and Service Trading Joint Stock Company as the investor to propose the preparation of a pre-feasibility study report for the Thap Cham - Da Lat railway restoration project under the public-private partnership method (including the Da Lat - Trai Mat railway line), ensuring compliance with regulations.
The Da Lat - Trai Mat railway line has many damaged sections that need repair and upgrading.
Currently, the capital allocated to the transportation sector in the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021-2025 is very limited, and balancing funding sources is difficult, making it impossible to invest in and upgrade the Da Lat - Trai Mat railway line.
In the immediate future, to ensure train safety and traffic safety on the Da Lat - Trai Mat railway line, the Ministry of Transport has assigned the Vietnam Railway Authority to take the lead, together with the Department of Transport Infrastructure and the Vietnam Railway Corporation , to work with relevant agencies of Lam Dong province to inspect and review damaged items and report to the Ministry of Transport for consideration to include them in the periodic repair plan in 2024 from the budget allocated for railway economic activities.
Previously, the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee sent a document to the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Railway Authority, proposing the renovation and upgrading of the Da Lat - Trai Mat railway line infrastructure. According to the province, this railway line is severely degraded, with some sections experiencing flooding, localized landslides, and wastewater and garbage buildup, posing a safety hazard and significantly impacting tourists and local residents.
Specifically, the route has many continuous curves, none of which have guardrails (with the smallest curve radius being only 195m), and passes through high mountainous areas with relatively steep longitudinal slopes; especially the steep section before Trai Mat station (Da Lat - Trai Mat direction).
The current railway track between Da Lat and Trai Mat is approximately 5 meters wide, with many sections having deep excavations and elevated embankments. The railway corridor is primarily hilly and mountainous, and during heavy rains, water from the hillsides flows down onto the track, carrying soil and rocks, causing flooding of 20-50 cm and significantly impacting train operations. The superstructure of the Da Lat - Trai Mat railway mainly consists of P26 rails, 12 meters long, on concrete sleepers interspersed with French-made steel sleepers, many of which are worn and damaged.
Therefore, Lam Dong province requests the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Railway Authority to consider and direct relevant units to promptly invest in and upgrade the infrastructure of this railway line.
