Despite being unable to play due to injury, Raphinha was still present in Madrid to watch the second leg at the Metropolitano Stadium. Barcelona won the match 2-1 but were still eliminated due to an aggregate score of 2-3.

After the match ended, Raphinha approached the Barcelona fans in the stands to greet them. When taunted and booed by a group of Atletico fans nearby, the Brazilian striker made a hand gesture accompanied by a knowing smile.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, this action was a sarcastic remark implying that Atletico would soon be eliminated from the Champions League in the next round, where the Spanish team would face Arsenal or Sporting CP.

The moment Raphinha caused outrage.

Speaking after the match, Raphinha also expressed his anger about the refereeing. He said: “This match was a robbery. The referee made too many mistakes, some decisions were incomprehensible. Atletico committed many fouls but were not punished appropriately.”

The turning point of the match came in the 79th minute when center-back Eric Garcia received a red card after fouling Alexander Sorloth, leaving Barcelona with no chance of turning the game around. This decision angered Raphinha, who felt his team had been unfairly treated.

Besides the red card incident, Barcelona also requested a penalty after a collision with Dani Olmo in the first half, but it was denied. This is the second consecutive match in which the Catalan team has reacted strongly to the refereeing in the Champions League, after their previous complaint to UEFA was rejected.

Coach Hansi Flick shared a similar view, believing that Barcelona deserved to advance. “We played a fantastic first half and should have scored more goals. Overall, considering both legs, we deserved to be in the semi-finals,” he said.

After being eliminated from the Champions League, Barcelona's only remaining objective is to defend their La Liga title.
