A series of leaked information suggests that Apple plans to launch the "thinnest ever" iPhone 17 Air along with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max next September.
The question of concern is what Apple will cut to achieve this capability. According to sources and leaked images, it seems that the battery will be the component that will have to be "sacrificed" to have this remarkable design.

Specifically, according to the image revealed by rumor expert Majin Bu, the battery on the iPhone 17 Air will only have a capacity of 2800 mAh, a significant reduction compared to the 3500 mAh capacity of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is likely to have an increased battery capacity, reaching about 5000 mAh.
This information was also confirmed by the yeux1122 account on the Korean blog Naver. This leaker then also released a leaked photo of the iPhone 17 Air battery showing a thickness of only about 2.49 mm and much thinner than the iPhone 17 Pro battery.
Whichever way you slice it, it’s a significant drop. In fact, the last iPhone with a battery capacity below 3,000 mAh, the iPhone 13 mini (2,438 mAh battery), was released four years ago.
The market might shy away from an iPhone with a small battery capacity, especially considering how important battery life is to most users.
Part of the reason for the iPhone 17 Air's poor battery life is its ultra-thin design (5.5mm at its thinnest point). If the rumors are true, this would be the thinnest iPhone ever. For comparison, the iPhone 16 is 7.8mm thin.
