The 52-year-old former football star was on vacation in Brazil with his wife and one child when he was unexpectedly taken to the hospital for a medical check-up. Prior to this, Carlos had a busy period attending the 2026 World Cup draw in the US before returning home to rest.
According to AS , Carlos's initial hospitalization was due to a small blood clot in his leg. However, during further examinations using a whole-body MRI, doctors discovered additional abnormalities in his heart, requiring immediate surgery.
The procedure was planned to last about 40 minutes, but it took nearly 3 hours due to problems that arose during the process. Despite this, Carlos's health is now stable.
The Brazilian legend will continue to be monitored in the hospital for 48 hours to prevent any post-surgical complications. Through his representative, the 2002 World Cup champion reassured fans: "I'm fine."
