Leaders of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Union and Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy presented flowers to the Advisory Board of the Student Scientific Conference on Advanced Medical and Biological Sciences.
Over 500 lecturers and students from universities and colleges in the city recently participated in the Advanced Biomedical Science Student Scientific Conference, organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Union in collaboration with the Can Tho City Student Union, the Hue University Student Union, the Vietnamese Student Union in France, and Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy last weekend. The conference featured 11 presentations by scientists, business representatives, and students, focusing on the application of artificial intelligence in biomedical research, nanomaterial research in biomedical applications, and the opportunities and challenges for medical students in the era of global integration and applied technology research.
Mr. Lam Tung, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Student Union, said: “The Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Union directs all levels of the Student Union to promote the student movement for scientific research, innovation, and entrepreneurship to awaken the spirit of learning, innovation, and contribution to the community. This workshop aims to promote ideas, topics, and research models in biomedical technology, intelligent diagnostics, biopharmaceuticals, cell technology, and new biomaterials, contributing to the strategy of developing a modern, humane, and sustainable medical system.”
In her presentation at the conference, Pham Ngoc Thuy Tien, a medical student from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, stated that in the context of digital transformation, medical students have many opportunities from artificial intelligence and big data, helping to diagnose and treat more effectively. However, they also face significant challenges regarding digital skills, medical ethics, and increased work pressure, requiring students to continuously learn about their profession and digital technology. The conference is an opportunity for students to update their knowledge, access some of the benefits of digital technology to apply in their studies, research, and future career development.
The "Business Challenge" startup competition, held from mid-September 2025 to December 2025, was jointly organized by the City Youth Union - Student Union of Can Tho and FPT University Can Tho campus. From 40 ideas submitted by participating teams in the preliminary round, the organizers selected 12 ideas from individual authors/teams to advance to the final round (scheduled for December 2025). These ideas demonstrated creative thinking, feasibility, and solutions to real-world problems.
According to Mr. Tran Viet Tuan, Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union, the competition shows that young people have many ideas and creativity, and with timely support, many feasible startup projects will emerge in the future. Therefore, the competition organizers also held many training activities, thematic workshops, and exhibitions showcasing student startup products, aiming to "ignite" the entrepreneurial spirit and enhance soft skills for young people.
Student organizations at universities implement numerous academic activities, creating a creative learning environment for students. Typical examples include organizing online forums for exchange and guidance on study methods and scientific research, and providing support for scientific research projects. Simultaneously, they establish, maintain, and strengthen the activities of clubs, teams, and study groups; and expand the network of alumni and young scientists to advise and support students with knowledge and learning skills.
For example, the Youth Union of Can Tho College of Economics and Technology has established clubs for IT, English, and entrepreneurship, attracting nearly 2,000 student participants. The Youth Union of Can Tho College of Tourism has established an online group called "Connecting Jobs with Businesses," with over 1,000 members including students, alumni, and business representatives. Group members not only provide information on recruitment needs but also support the school in training soft skills and sharing guidance on academic and career paths for students.
In the coming period, the City Youth Union will establish a creative ideas exchange platform, mobilizing the participation of social organizations and businesses in innovation activities. At the same time, it will direct units to continue innovating the "Youth Innovation" movement, strengthen academic clubs in schools, and create an environment for union members and students to study, research, and engage in creative work.
