After more than a year since construction began, contractors have completed the replacement of sleepers and rails, and the renovation of the railway's superstructure. Some remaining work includes reinforcing the roadbed and constructing longitudinal drainage ditches.
The Nha Trang - Saigon railway renovation and upgrade project (phase 2) commenced at the end of January 2023.
Two packages of the railway renovation and upgrade project on the Nha Trang - Saigon section are ahead of schedule (pictured: construction workers at the Thap Cham section).
The project comprises 3 construction packages, with a total estimated investment of over 1,098 billion VND.
According to Mr. Dang Xuan An, a consulting supervisor from Hanoi Transportation Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company, the contractor has completed the main line upgrade items, replacing the rails and sleepers with new ones.
A section of railway passing through Thuan Bac district ( Ninh Thuan province) has had its rails and sleepers replaced.
Specifically, the Kà Rôm - Phước Nhơn, Phước Nhơn - Tháp Chàm, and Tháp Chàm - Hòa Trinh sections passing through Ninh Thuận province have basically completed the superstructure construction.
"At the Ka Rom - Phuoc Nhon section (Km 1382+246), the contractor is currently constructing 6km of drainage ditches along the route to expedite technical acceptance and handover to the investor," Mr. An said.
According to a leader of Thuan Hai Railway Joint Stock Company (the unit managing the railway section through Ninh Thuan), trains can currently travel at a speed of 80 km/h, and after acceptance testing, the train speed may be further increased.
An automatic barrier has been installed at a railway crossing in Ninh Thuan province.
Mr. Nguyen Van Diep, in charge of the Nha Trang - Saigon section renovation and upgrade project (under the Railway Project Management Board), said that packages XL01 and XL02 are ahead of schedule compared to the contract, with 100% of the planned capital disbursement achieved.
Due to the unique construction requirements, which involve ensuring train safety while construction is underway, the contractor has focused on a phased approach. Because the project depends on the train schedule, each section is completed simultaneously to ensure it is ready for operation and meets the design speed.
Currently, the upgrade and expansion projects for Song Than and Di An stations are being urgently implemented.
Upon completion, the project will ensure traffic safety, improve the quality of railway infrastructure, and enhance the capacity for transporting passengers and goods.
