Tolls will be collected on 5 sections of the North-South Expressway after the Lunar New Year.

VTV.vn - Five component projects of the North-South Expressway will begin collecting tolls after March 1st, which is after the Lunar New Year. This requirement was recently issued by the Ministry of Construction.

Five projects are required to collect tolls after the Lunar New Year holiday: Mai Son - National Highway 45, National Highway 45 - Nghi Son, Nghi Son - Dien Chau, Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet, and Phan Thiet - Dau Giay. These are all component projects of the North-South Expressway Phase 1, which have been in operation since April 2024.

The Ministry of Construction requires project management boards, investors, and related units to complete all items serving toll collection simultaneously, especially the non-stop toll collection system and the traffic monitoring and management center.

In addition, other component projects of the North-South Expressway Eastern section, phase 2, are also required to accelerate the completion of the intelligent transportation system and related items before April 30th. The Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau component projects have had their implementation deadlines extended to June 30th.

Regarding infrastructure for operation, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh requested a thorough review of investment in rest stops along the North-South expressway. Any obstacles must be promptly addressed to ensure consistency in operation and maintenance.

The toll collection on the five aforementioned expressway sections was initially planned to begin in early 2026. However, this plan has not been implemented. The main reason is the slow progress in preparing for toll collection, especially in the selection of contractors, installation, and operation of the toll collection system. Some technical aspects required adjustments and additions, extending the completion time.

Furthermore, the construction progress of rest stops in some component projects has not met expectations. Many stations could not be completed in 2025 as planned, forcing requests for extensions of the construction time.

According to current regulations, rest stops are one of the conditions for a project to be eligible to collect tolls. Therefore, delays in these items have directly affected the toll collection plan for the entire route.
