A desire to share

On a morning at the end of March 2026, within the grounds of Hoang Hoa Tham Primary School (Ngoc Ha Ward), one of the schools selected to host Scribbles' Exhibition 2026 – a completely free interactive exhibition – the atmosphere at Scribbles' Tour 2026 continued to spread the message about the role of the community in the growth journey of young children. The air was more vibrant than usual. Amidst the cheers of children participating in traditional games, there was a painting area. From the meticulousness of the students and the perseverance and dedication of the volunteers, naive drawings gradually appeared on the white paper. Simple and unpretentious, each painting contained a whole world of childhood emotions. In every glance, every smile, every handshake, there were glimpses of unique messages about sharing, about the joy of being listened to, being accompanied, and growing up in the love that the members of the Scribbles project have persistently nurtured.

Sharing her joy at participating in traditional games and making cakes with her family, Tran Gia Linh said: "Today was a really fun and meaningful day for me, as I got to participate in traditional games and be guided in making cute little handicrafts."

Ms. Dao Thi Bich Hue, after participating in the exhibition with her child, expressed: "I found the activities here very beneficial in terms of both thinking and physical activity. Thanks to them, my children learned many lessons about spreading positive values to the community."

As part of Scribbles' Tour 2026, themed "Community Imprint," the journey continued with educational experiences during Charity Day at the Hanoi Center for the Care of People with Disabilities. Here, the children participated in a variety of activities, from traditional games and crafts to interactive experiences with their families. Each activity was a piece of the puzzle that helped them better understand the world around them, their role in the community, and the value of sharing. Alongside these experiential activities, Scribbles also focused on providing practical support to underprivileged children. During Charity Day 2026, the organizers also donated many gifts such as rice, milk, and toys.

What is most valuable is the way the project members connect with the children not through handouts, but through genuine companionship. They listen, talk, play, and share with the children as true friends. Perhaps that is why Scribbles has become a beautiful part of many children's childhood memories. And along this journey, the high school students in the city participating in the project are quietly writing a beautiful story of kindness and love sown from the smallest things.

Over 10 years ago, the Scribbles project was born from a simple idea by a group of students from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students, who wanted to bring art and positive values closer to children, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Gradually, the project has developed into one of the exemplary volunteer models of high school students in Hanoi. Through each season, Scribbles has continuously innovated in content and form. From initial art classes, the project has expanded into larger-scale programs such as Scribbles' Camp – an annual summer camp, and Scribbles' Tour – a journey to schools, shelters, and welfare centers throughout the city.

Over more than 10 years and more than 20 visits, nearly 50 million VND in cash, over 500 sets of clothing, 350 pieces of household equipment, over 100 sets of school supplies, and many other items have been donated to children in the city. In addition, each time they visit a school, project members prepare games and lessons with many meaningful experiential activities to teach and play with the children. These are not just numbers, but proof of a persistent journey by young people with a desire to share.

Growing through the journey of giving

Behind this well-organized volunteer activity lies the considerable effort of its members, who are still high school students with demanding school schedules. For them, Scribbles is not just a project, but also a place to learn how to grow and mature.

Dang Diep Chi, a student in class 11 Math 2 at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students and Head of the Scribbles project organizing committee, shared: “We believe that every child has their own unique identity. Therefore, the important thing is not to teach them who they should become, but to create conditions for them to understand who they are, what they like, and what they want. When they understand themselves, they will be more confident and develop better.”

From that perspective, Scribbles' activities are always geared towards free experimentation. There are no rigid structures, no impositions; each child is encouraged to try new things and express their individuality. There, differences are not seen as out of place, but are cherished as unique colors waiting to be explored.

This journey of sowing seeds of love not only brings value to the children, but the project members themselves also receive more than they give. Nguyen Ngoc Linh, a student in class 11I1 at Tay Ho High School and Head of Communications for the project, expressed: “Scribbles has given me a truly wonderful time. I got to meet passionate people and felt the happiness of sharing when I saw the joy in the children's eyes, in their smiles, and even the reluctance to say goodbye.”

Perhaps the most beautiful thing that young people gain after each Scribbles season is not a certificate or a specific achievement, but the growth in their thinking and way of life. After each trip, they not only bring back memorable photos, but also receive lessons about compassion, responsibility, and how to love others in a very genuine way.

The dedication of the project members was also recognized by the teachers at the schools. Nguyen Khanh Ly, the principal of Aplus Cao Lo Kindergarten (Dong Anh commune), said that although the exchange time was short, the eager eyes and radiant smiles of the children said it all. Activities like this are truly meaningful and should be replicated.

Sharing this sentiment, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao from the SOS Children's Village (Phu Dien Ward) expressed her emotion: “Each play area and lesson from the young volunteers was very interesting. It's been a long time since the children here laughed so much and had so much fun. Even after the volunteers left, the children kept talking about the experiences that day.” With their dedication and creativity, the experiential activities of the Scribbles project not only bring immediate joy but also contribute to helping the children develop communication skills, self-confidence, and the ability to integrate, which are important factors in their growth process.

For over 10 years, Scribbles has been steadily affirming the project's significance in supporting the holistic development of children. Not stopping there, the project members are also planning to expand, bringing the project to more disadvantaged areas and providing opportunities for even more children to experience these initiatives.

Scribbles means "scribbles," but the group members have brought beautiful, well-crafted experiences to the children with loving hearts. This marks the growth of these young people, who are learning to live more responsibly, to love more, and to give more. From each initial "scribble," a beautiful journey of compassion is being painted with all the kindness of their school years.
