Let's take advantage of the lull in the rain to lend a hand.

On the morning of October 29th, taking advantage of the receding floodwaters, the authorities and people of Thuan Hoa ward joined hands to clean up the area and help each other quickly stabilize their lives.

Neighborhood groups, youth union members, militia forces, and urban sanitation workers actively collected garbage and mud, cleared drains, and sprayed and washed streets and residential areas, including many deeply flooded streets such as Phan Dinh Phung, Phan Chau Trinh, Bui Thi Xuan, and Nguyen Hue... With the motto "clean up as soon as the water recedes," sanitation activities were implemented synchronously.

Not only Thuan Hoa ward, but many localities in the city are also urgently mobilizing all forces and people to participate in cleaning up and overcoming the consequences of the floods. In Hung Loc commune, the work of repairing landslides and cleaning up after the water recedes is being carried out simultaneously. In addition to repairing the road to Phung Son village, which had cut off and isolated households in Phung Son village, and which is now open again, forces in the commune along with local youth union members have launched a cleanup campaign in areas where the water has receded, including Hoa Vang, Binh An, Thuan Hoa, Hoa My villages, etc.

In Loc An commune, on the morning of October 29th, rainfall decreased, water levels receded, and residents in safe areas were leaving temporary shelters to return home and clean up after the flood. Local authorities continue to direct relevant agencies and units to regularly inform residents in the area to proactively implement solutions to respond to the flooding situation and clean up through three methods: via public address systems, mobile vehicles, and social media platforms such as Facebook and Zalo. Local forces are coordinating and supporting residents in cleaning up areas where water has receded.

Ensuring essential supplies for patients and their families.

The leaders of the Hue City Department of Health have directed medical facilities in the area, where many are still deeply flooded and affecting people's travel, to ensure essential supplies for patients, their families, and medical staff at these facilities.

According to a preliminary report from the Department of Health, as of the morning of October 29th, 25 health stations across the city were flooded (water entered the stations), with many stations experiencing deep flooding of 0.7-1 meter, such as the Vy Da, Huong An, and Thuy Thanh stations (facility 2)...

In addition, eight facilities were flooded, including five specialized hospitals: Traditional Medicine Hospital, Lung Hospital, Eye Hospital, Rehabilitation Hospital (Branch 2), and Dermatology Hospital; Quang Dien Medical Center… From 8:00 AM on October 21st to 6:00 AM on October 29th, more than 11,430 patients received inpatient treatment.

Along with flood and natural disaster prevention efforts, the Department of Health requests that medical units and facilities ensure logistical support and essential supplies for patients, their families, and medical staff at flooded and isolated medical facilities. Simultaneously, they should strengthen epidemiological surveillance, early detection, and timely handling of outbreaks of diarrhea, hand, foot and mouth disease, influenza, dengue fever, skin diseases, conjunctivitis, malaria, leptospira, and intestinal diseases; organize chemical spraying for disinfection and mosquito control; treat flooded drinking water and wells; and guide people on environmental hygiene, ensuring food is cooked thoroughly, water is boiled, living in clean conditions, and collecting and burying animal carcasses according to regulations.

Targeting people in flood-affected areas

Alongside environmental sanitation efforts, many activities to support people in deeply flooded areas were also promptly implemented. At Truong An Primary School (Thuan Hoa ward), the "kitchen of love" run by more than 20 women from Hue has been burning brightly for many days during the heavy rains and floods. These women, who are officials, teachers, civil servants, and workers in the area, voluntarily contributed their time and resources to cook nearly 3,000 hot meals, sending them to people isolated by the floodwaters.

These small but meaningful acts have contributed to spreading the spirit of mutual support among the people of Hue during times of hardship. Currently, the People's Committee of Thuan Hoa Ward continues to call on all residents to proactively clean up the environment, tidy their homes, collect waste, prevent disease outbreaks, and contribute to building a green, clean, beautiful, and safe residential area after the floods.

In Chan May commune, Lang Co district, the spirit of "helping those in need" is spreading. Despite being heavily impacted by natural disasters, through the efforts of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune, after the floodwaters receded, many teachers, philanthropists, and residents joined hands to purchase ingredients for food and package it to send as acts of kindness to those in need, especially students facing difficulties during the recent floods in Hue city.

Currently, many organizations and units inside and outside the city are also focusing on supporting people in flood-affected areas. On the morning of October 29th, the Phu Tho provincial relief team, in coordination with the Vietnam Buddhist Association and the People's Committee of Thuy Xuan ward (Hue City), distributed more than 400 gift packages including instant noodles, milk, drinking water, and other essential necessities to people in deeply flooded areas.

Due to the prolonged heavy rain, many areas in Thuy Xuan ward, such as Dong Phuoc 1, Dong Phuoc 2, and Luong Quan residential areas, were flooded from 1.5 to nearly 2 meters, disrupting traffic and disturbing the lives of residents. The working group proactively reached each area, distributed gifts, and visited and encouraged households severely affected.

Mr. Dang Huu Hai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuy Xuan Ward, said that some areas in the ward are still deeply flooded. The authorities are coordinating with rescue forces and charitable organizations to continue supporting people in overcoming the consequences, cleaning up houses, and sanitizing the environment after the flood. The timely relief efforts have helped people alleviate immediate difficulties, demonstrating the solidarity and sharing spirit of the community towards Central Vietnam during this year's rainy season.

In Huong Tra ward, as of the morning of October 29th, eight residential areas were still widely flooded with water depths of 0.2-0.5m; some inner-city roads were flooded from 0.3-1m. Currently, 915 houses in the ward are flooded. To support households affected by the floods, over the two days of October 28th and 29th, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward, political and social organizations, volunteer groups, religious establishments, and benevolent individuals from within and outside the locality distributed 1,000 gift packages (rice, instant noodles, cooking oil) worth 400 million VND, 2,000 meals worth 40 million VND, and 40 million VND in cash.

This afternoon, heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain, fell again across the city, and the forecast indicates that flooding will continue to be unpredictable in the coming days. Amidst the countless difficulties caused by this natural disaster, acts of sharing and compassion for Hue have helped to warm people's hearts.
