According to Chosun , on June 11, the Seoul Western District Court sentenced Son Seung Won to one year in prison for violating traffic laws, including drunk driving. The court determined that the actor posed a risk of fleeing and ordered his immediate arrest at the trial.

Previously, in November last year, Son Seung Won was caught driving against the flow of traffic on the Beihan River Expressway while intoxicated. At the time of his arrest, his blood alcohol level was more than twice the threshold for license revocation (0.08% or higher). He was indicted in February of this year. Prosecutors have recommended a four-year prison sentence.

The court stated: “Son Seung Won not only drove while intoxicated but also incited his girlfriend to conceal dashcam footage after being caught red-handed. The nature of the case is very serious.” The court also pointed out that the defendant drove against traffic on the highway while drunk and falsely claimed that the taxi driver abandoned the vehicle after an argument between the two parties.

The court considered aggravating factors such as the very high blood alcohol concentration and the defendant's prior criminal record related to drunk driving. At the time, public outrage was particularly strong because the actor's driver's license had been revoked shortly before due to another drunk driving incident, yet he continued to re-offend.

The driver and passenger in the car involved in the collision were hospitalized. Following a chase by citizens and a taxi driver, Son Seung Won was arrested. In that case, he was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
