The Da River, also known as the Bo River or the Den River, is the largest tributary of the Red River – the mother river of the Northern Delta. Originating in Yunnan Province (China), the Da River has a total length of over 910 km, and is called the Li Xian River – the section flowing into Vietnam is 543 km long. The Da River is not only known as Vietnam's largest energy river, with numerous hydroelectric power plants such as Hoa Binh, Son La, and Lai Chau , but also as the mother river for dozens of ethnic groups in the Northwest region.
