The truth about eating pineapple to make your body "smell" better

(Dan Tri) - Many people say that eating pineapple helps improve the odor of private parts and body. However, according to experts, food is only a small part of the complex "scent picture" of the human body.

Body odor is a natural biological phenomenon, reflecting the metabolic and excretory processes in the human body.

According to Professor Johan Lundström, Karolinska Institute (Sweden), who specializes in body odor research, the smell of human sweat depends on many different factors.

"Body odour depends partly on genes, the bacterial population on the body (due to factors such as hygiene and genetics) and the environment (humidity, temperature, air pressure). Besides, what you eat also plays an important role," he shared with the BBC .

Foods that affect body odor

The body has two main types of sweat glands: eccrine and apocrine. Eccrine glands secrete sweat primarily to cool the body and have no discernible odor.

Apocrine glands are active in areas such as the armpits and groin, secreting a fluid rich in proteins and lipids - an ideal environment for bacteria to grow. When bacteria break down these substances, they create an odor - which can be mild or unpleasant depending on the individual and lifestyle habits.

Substances that the body excretes, including through sweat, urine, and vaginal secretions, can also be affected by what people take in.

"Most foods that enter the body release substances that dissolve into the blood. These substances are excreted in one way or another through body odor," explains Professor Johan Lundström.

Therefore, some foods such as "strong-smelling" spices, red meat, curry... can cause strong and long-lasting body odor. On the contrary, fresh foods, green vegetables, fruits and herbs can help to soften or "neutralize" body odor.

Does eating pineapple help improve vaginal odor as rumored?

Some nutritionists and obstetricians say: vaginal discharge can be affected by many factors, including hormones, personal hygiene, vaginal health and diet.

Lifestyle, including diet and nutrition, can affect body odor, especially vaginal odor, by changing vaginal pH or increasing the growth of beneficial bacteria.

For example, a diet high in refined sugar can alter the vaginal pH, allowing yeast to grow and cause unpleasant odors. Meanwhile, eating plenty of fermented foods like yogurt or kimchi, which are rich in probiotics, can help maintain a healthy vaginal microbiome.

Sharing with Well and Good , Dr. Amy Roskin, obstetrician and gynecologist, medical director at Seven Starling, a center providing mental health care services for mothers, said that eating pineapple brings many health benefits.

"Pineapple has anti-inflammatory properties, promotes tissue healing and boosts the immune system. Pineapple is 85-89% water, so staying hydrated is important to promote natural vaginal lubrication. The more lubricated the vagina is, the thinner the secretions, and the less unpleasant odors are produced," Dr. Roskin analyzed.

However, in reality, there is still no research proving a direct link between eating pineapple and improving the smell of this part.

Due to its high natural sugar content and distinctive aroma, pineapple can slightly affect the smell of urine or sweat, similar to asparagus or coffee. However, these effects are temporary and depend on the amount consumed and the individual's metabolic rate.

Therefore, doctors say that people should eat pineapple because it is a healthy food, instead of to improve body odor.

Pineapple is a tropical fruit rich in vitamin C, antioxidants and especially the enzyme bromelain, which is said to have anti-inflammatory effects and aid digestion.

In addition, the enzyme bromelain in pineapple has anti-inflammatory effects, helping to increase blood circulation. This directly affects the erectile ability of men as well as enhances sexual arousal in women.

In addition, if you want to improve vaginal odor, doctors also advise people to drink enough water every day; eat lots of green vegetables, fresh fruit and yogurt.

Maintain proper personal hygiene; wear clean, breathable underwear and avoid smoking, drinking alcohol and eating processed, spicy foods.
