New life on this heroic land.

During the two wars of resistance against French colonialism and American imperialism, Quơn Long commune (Chợ Gạo district, Tiền Giang province) was a land rich in revolutionary traditions; its people were ready to sacrifice their lives and blood to protect their homeland.

Having just emerged from war, the people of Quơn Long, under the leadership of the Party Committee and the commune government, have united, strived to rise up, and created new miracles in building and developing their homeland.

A Flourishing Countryside

Upon arriving in Quơn Long commune, we clearly felt the dramatic changes taking place. After 1975, over 80% of households in the commune were poor, and the lives of the people were still very difficult. However, with the spirit of unity and the efforts of the entire political system of the commune, along with the solidarity of the people in competing in labor and production, and helping each other develop family economies to build a new life, Quơn Long commune has made significant progress.

A highlight is that in 2019, Quơn Long achieved the status of a new rural commune. Roads are all paved with asphalt and concrete, keeping them clean. The electricity, road, school, and health station systems have been invested in and upgraded, serving the learning, transportation, and daily life needs of the people.

Specifically, currently, 100% of commune-level roads, roads from the commune center to the district, and inter-hamlet roads are asphalted; over 70% of alleyways and village roads are concreted; and 85% of main roads within the fields ensure the transportation of goods… showing that the appearance of this land rich in revolutionary traditions is becoming increasingly bright and modern.

Due to the soil conditions, the people here mainly grow dragon fruit and pomelo. To date, the entire commune has 1,042 hectares of dragon fruit (of which red-fleshed dragon fruit accounts for 710 hectares), with a yield of 30 tons/ha and a production of 93,760 tons/year. The stable selling price of dragon fruit has brought a considerable income to the people…

A highlight is that Hung Thinh Phat Cooperative has advised and implemented recertification, upgrading VietGAP standards to GlobalGAP for 883 households with a total area of ​​484.57 hectares out of 1,042 hectares, and has been granted an OCOP product certificate for red-fleshed dragon fruit (achieving 4 stars)... From there, the dragon fruit brand of this region has favorable conditions to expand its export market, contributing to increasing people's income.

According to Phan Hoang Dinh, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Quon Long commune: “The Party Committee and People's Committee of the commune have focused on leading and directing the implementation of solutions to achieve the goals and targets set annually; promptly resolving difficulties and obstacles, creating favorable conditions for production and business activities and stabilizing people's lives. In particular, thanks to the consensus and cooperation of the people, all the plans have been implemented effectively…”

This has been proven in practice by outstanding achievements over the years; especially in 2024, Quơn Long commune completed a comprehensive rural transportation system, connecting various areas to serve local economic development.

To enhance the aesthetics and revitalize the rural landscape, the commune has constructed flower-lined roads following the "Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful" principle. Based on the effective implementation of central and local policies on poverty reduction, the Party Committee, People's Committee, and various organizations have implemented a comprehensive set of policies, including: providing preferential credit loans, replicating successful poverty reduction models, supporting healthcare, education , housing, tuition fees, vocational training, and job creation for the poor, helping poor households achieve sustainable poverty alleviation.

Simultaneously, the commune also focuses on developing business, services, industrial and handicraft production activities, promoting traditional crafts and new industries to create jobs and generate income for local workers. In 2024, Quơn Long commune maintained and continued to uphold the goal of having no poor households, with an average per capita income of 70.53 million VND.

During the year, the commune reduced the number of near-poor households by one, leaving 22 near-poor households with 81 people. The commune will continue to implement appropriate poverty reduction solutions, contributing to creating conditions for people to develop their economy and rise to legitimate wealth in the future.

STRENGTHENING PARTY BUILDING WORK

Alongside focusing on socio-economic development and improving people's lives, the Party Committee of Quơn Long commune has consistently prioritized Party building and rectification, contributing to the development of a truly strong Party organization and an effective political system that meets the demands of the new situation. With these achievements, the Quơn Long commune Party Committee has been recognized by the Chợ Gạo District Party Committee as an exemplary Party organization that has consistently performed its duties exceptionally well for many years.

To improve the quality of Party building and rectification work, the commune Party Committee focuses on directing subordinate Party branches to do a good job of political and ideological education for cadres, civil servants, and Party members; encouraging cadres and Party members to effectively participate in all aspects of work assigned by higher levels; and strengthening the building of a team of cadres, civil servants, and Party members with firm political convictions, moral character, organizational discipline, exemplary conduct, and who successfully complete their assigned tasks.

At the same time, the commune Party Committee directed the subordinate Party branches to seriously implement measures to improve the quality of Party branch meetings; and to strengthen inspection and supervision of subordinate Party branches in carrying out the work of improving the quality of Party branch meetings.

Party branches basically organize meetings ensuring content and quality, integrating the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style into regular meetings according to annual themes... Through this, many exemplary advanced individuals, good practices, and effective models in studying and following Uncle Ho have emerged, thereby spreading strongly throughout social life.

Looking ahead, Comrade Phan Hoang Dinh stated: “The commune Party Committee will continue to strictly adhere to the Party's guidelines and viewpoints, the Provincial Party Committee, and the District Party Committee; proactively and effectively carry out assigned political tasks; especially strengthening political and ideological education for cadres, Party members, and the people in the face of the current ‘revolution to streamline the apparatus,’ aiming to guide cadres, Party members, and the people in a positive direction, raising awareness, and preventing hostile forces from exploiting this issue to incite unrest and spread false information against the Party and the State…”.

The war is long over, and this heroic land, rich in revolutionary traditions, has now donned a new look. Under the leadership and guidance of the Party Committee and the local government, along with the consensus of the people, Quơn Long commune has achieved many important and comprehensive accomplishments in all fields, and the commune's appearance is therefore developing in a progressive and modern direction.
