In the Indonesian presidential election this February, Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia's Minister of Defense, won with nearly 60% of the vote. Over the past nine months, Prabowo has dedicated much of his time to building a strong parliamentary coalition.
With this victory, Prabowo Subianto becomes the 8th President of Indonesia and succeeds outgoing President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo. On his way to the palace for his inauguration, Prabowo was greeted by thousands of supporters holding posters with images of the soon-to-be-inaugurated leader.
Indonesian police and military implemented strict security measures, deploying at least 100,000 personnel across the city, including snipers and riot control units.
After assuming the presidency, Prabowo began implementing goals to accelerate economic growth to 8%, help Indonesia become self-sufficient in the production of key commodities, and strengthen its active role on the international stage.
The people of the "land of a thousand islands" are looking forward to a more dynamic era for the country under the leadership of a politician with a 28-year military career, including time as Minister of Defense, and time to test his skills in the business world.
In just five months since the presidential election on February 14th, Mr. Prabowo has made more than 10 overseas trips to regions around the globe, meeting with numerous heads of state in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
He also emphasized the importance of building strong relationships with countries in South Asia and Africa.
