Efforts to protect forest land
According to Mr. Ngo Cong Chau, Director of the Cam Lam - Cam Ranh - Khanh Son Protective Forest Management Board, the unit is assigned to manage over 30,320 hectares of forest and forest land in 6 communes and wards. Thanks to strengthened coordination, patrols, and control, in the first 6 months of this year, only 2 cases of encroachment on forest land occurred within the unit's forest area, a decrease of 18 cases compared to the same period in 2025. However, the management and protection of forest land in the unit currently faces many difficulties as the value of fruit trees increases, leading to high prices of land for fruit tree cultivation, especially in the Khanh Son area, so many people encroach on forest land for cultivation; areas of forest bordering people's fields and farms also show signs of encroachment in a kind of oil slick; people encroach on forest land, level the ground, dig ponds, and use land for purposes other than intended...

At the Ninh Hoa - Van Ninh Protective Forest Management Board, preserving forest land is a top priority, especially in the Cam Xe forest area in Tay Ninh Hoa commune. The encroachment on Cam Xe forest land has significantly decreased thanks to close coordination between the forest management unit, relevant agencies, and local authorities. In the first six months of 2026, no incidents related to forest land encroachment were recorded in this area. Besides closely coordinating with inspection forces and the Tay Ninh Hoa Commune People's Committee in verifying and handling existing violations, the forest management unit maintains a presence in high-risk areas to promptly detect and prevent new incidents.
Currently, the province has over 517,000 hectares of land planned for forestry, of which approximately 410,750 hectares are forested, with a forest cover rate of 47.19%. In recent years, forest protection and forestry land management have achieved many positive results, with a significant reduction in violations. However, within the forest areas managed by some forest management units, there are still cases of encroachment, illegal planting of trees, digging of ponds, construction of houses, huts, and other structures on forestry land, affecting forest management and protection, land use purposes, and potentially leading to violations of land and forestry laws.
Strengthening management coordination
To protect forest land, in recent times, forest management units have implemented a comprehensive range of measures to manage and protect the forests and forest land under their management; signed coordination regulations with local authorities and functional forces to strengthen inspection and strict management of the assigned land area, detect, prevent, and promptly handle violations such as: digging ponds, leveling land, planting trees for purposes other than land use, constructing houses, huts, shelters, and other structures that alter the current state of forest land in violation of the law; and compiled dossiers and transferred them to competent authorities for strict handling of violations... The People's Committees of communes and wards with forests have also strengthened state management of forests and forest land in their areas; supported and coordinated with forest management units and forest rangers in inspecting, detecting, preventing, and handling violations...

According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Hieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, to improve the effectiveness of forest protection and development, and forest land management, close and synchronized coordination between forest management units, local authorities, and relevant agencies is necessary. Specifically, local Party committees and authorities with forests need to pay close attention to and decisively direct the dissemination of information and raise public awareness of forest protection; closely coordinate with forest rangers and forest management units to investigate, verify, and strictly handle those who destroy forests and encroach on forest land. Forest management units need to enhance their role and responsibility in managing and protecting forests and assigned forest land areas to develop protection plans early, from afar, and from the root; and decisively address the situation of forest land encroachment... The Forest Protection Department needs to strengthen coordination with localities and forest management units in inspecting, controlling, and strictly managing forest land areas in the area; Timely detection, prevention, and strict handling of violations... Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is advising the Provincial People's Committee on the comprehensive development and digitization of forestry data, using technology to reduce human burden in monitoring, managing, and protecting forests and forest land, creating a solid foundation for the management of forest resources and forest land throughout the province.
