With only about a month left, the entrance exam for 10th grade in high schools for the 2025-2026 school year in the province will take place. Along with the high school graduation exam, this is also an important milestone in the life of every student. The atmosphere of preparation among teachers and students in grade 9 at junior high schools is very intense.

This school year, Cao Xanh Secondary School (Ha Long City) has 140 ninth-grade students. It is projected that 65% will register for the high school entrance exam, while the remaining 35% will be streamed after secondary school (to vocational schools or career guidance schools). To prepare the students for the tenth-grade entrance exam, the school is organizing review sessions for each subject (Mathematics, Literature, English) with 2 lessons per week per subject. In addition, the school is directing subject teachers to proactively increase the review time for students (free of charge).

The school principal, Ms. Pham Thi Kim Huong, said: "From the beginning of the school year, the school has set specific goals and solutions for 9th-grade students to help them achieve the best results in the entrance exam to 10th grade in the 2025-2026 school year."

The goal is to consolidate and improve the quality of knowledge, support students in mastering the subject matter, avoid rote learning or focusing only on certain topics, and enhance their ability to apply knowledge to actual exams. In particular, it aims to train students in exam-taking skills such as reading and analyzing questions, time management, and presentation skills.

Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary, Secondary, and High School (Ha Long City) has 70 students currently preparing for the entrance exams to high schools in the province.

It is known that this year is the first year the exam implements the 2018 general education program. In addition, the exam structure has changed. The third subject is determined by drawing lots and announced by the Department of Education and Training.

Accordingly, in implementation of Official Letter No. 114/BGDĐT-GDTrH dated January 10, 2025, from the Ministry of Education and Training regarding the selection and announcement of the third exam subject and guidance on admission criteria in the secondary and high school entrance examination, on February 6, 2025, the Department of Education and Training issued a Notice on the exam subjects for the Grade 10 entrance examination, to facilitate students in completing their studies, prepare for the exam, and maintain a positive mindset to achieve high results.

The subjects included in the entrance exam for 10th grade high school in the 2025-2026 school year in the province are: Literature, Mathematics, and Foreign Language (English, French, Chinese).

According to many parents, choosing a foreign language as the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam helps maintain psychological stability and aligns with students' career aspirations.

Thanks to the early announcement of the third exam subject, teachers in schools were able to plan and prepare review outlines for students, proactively systematizing key knowledge in regular class sessions to help students grasp the material right in the classroom. Some schools organized mock tests and exams in an innovative way, building exam questions that closely followed the structure of the provincial entrance exam; and regularly informed parents of their children's academic results.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung, Deputy Principal of Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary, Secondary, and High School (Ha Long City), shared: "The school has 70 students preparing for the entrance exams to high schools, while the remaining 109 students have registered for admission to the 10th grade at our school. After the recent Lunar New Year, the school organized review sessions of 2 lessons per week per subject. After the main curriculum, the review sessions will be 10 lessons per week per subject. We plan to hold a total of 5 mock exams to help students hone their test-taking skills. We have selected experienced teachers to prepare the students. Approximately a dozen students applying to Ha Long Specialized High School will receive additional intensive training with advanced exercises."

The entrance exam for 10th grade in the 2025-2026 school year is expected to be more challenging for 9th-grade students. The competition for a place in a public school is intense, requiring students to study diligently and prepare hard. Certainly, with the close guidance of the province and the Department of Education, students will be well-prepared to enter the exam with the most confident and relaxed mindset.
