Thanks to this, for many disadvantaged people living in the capital city, Tet is no longer a source of anxiety and worry, but a warm and hopeful Tet season...

Bringing Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) to the underprivileged.

On the 29th day of the Lunar New Year, the spring atmosphere permeated the streets. In a small room of just over ten square meters in the dialysis patient community at alley 121 Le Thanh Nghi (Bach Mai ward, Hanoi ), Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoa, originally from Nam Dinh, was rearranging the bags of New Year's gifts she had received, and emotionally said: "Having sticky rice cakes, boxes of candied fruits, and a little extra money, we feel so warm inside. Being far from home for treatment all year round, receiving this kind of care is so precious."

Understanding the plight of the dialysis patients in the community, every Lunar New Year, delegations from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi City deliver gifts to the patients in a timely manner. This serves as encouragement, helps alleviate the burden of living expenses, and provides strength to the patients during their treatment and while living far from their families during the Tet holiday.

Along with 32 patients with particularly difficult circumstances in the dialysis patient community at alley 121 Le Thanh Nghi, 28 patients in the Ngoc Hoi dialysis patient community (Ngoc Hoi commune, Hanoi) also received gifts from the Hanoi City Fatherland Front Committee and local authorities this year.

For many years, Ms. Phuong Thi Hien (from Hai Phong city) has celebrated Tet (Lunar New Year) in her rented room, but each time she receives a Tet gift from the government and the city, she cannot help but be moved. "We understand that we are not alone and we tell ourselves to be strong in the face of the support and love of the community," Ms. Hien said emotionally.

Not only in the dialysis patient community, but also in other localities this year, activities to care for people in difficult circumstances have been given attention and promoted. Many practical and humane Tet (Lunar New Year) care models and activities have been widely organized, such as: the "Tet Reunion" program, "Tet of Compassion - Connecting Love", "Spring of Love - Tet of Reunion"; "Zero-Cost" stalls; cultural and artistic activities celebrating the Party and the Spring Festival..., contributing to creating a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere and strengthening community cohesion among all strata of the people.

In particular, the "Tet Reunion - Spring Gratitude to the Party" program in Soc Son commune attracted more than 300 union members and workers. The commune's trade union distributed 356 gifts and provided 63 bus tickets to migrant workers, with a total value of over 400 million VND, helping workers feel secure returning home to reunite with their families.

The "zero-cost" market in Phu Luong ward served the people with goods worth over 200 million VND, mobilized through social contributions and the "For the Poor" Fund. The organizers also directly presented gifts to more than 100 policy beneficiary families and particularly disadvantaged households.

The "Compassionate Tet - Loving Spring" program in Cua Nam ward mobilized and donated 833 gift packages to war veterans, the elderly, orphaned children, and families in particularly difficult circumstances, totaling nearly 531 million VND.

Mr. Pham The Hung, one of the disadvantaged residents in the ward, shared: “Thanks to meaningful programs like this, we feel more strongly the spirit of 'mutual support,' ensuring that no one is left behind. I hope this charitable movement will continue to spread, helping more disadvantaged people have a fulfilling and warm Tet holiday.”

Spreading responsibility within the community.

According to the report of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi City, the work of caring for the people of the capital city during Tet (Lunar New Year) has demonstrated a proactive, systematic, and coordinated spirit from the city level to the grassroots, with the overarching goal: "Everyone, every family has a Tet," ensuring that no one is left behind.

From the beginning of December 2025, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city issued Plan No. 06/KH-MTTQ-BTT, clearly identifying the key target groups including near-poor households, households with particularly difficult circumstances, union members, association members, struggling workers, and other vulnerable groups.

The implementation was carried out uniformly, coupled with intensified propaganda and mobilization of businesses, organizations, individuals, and philanthropists, and the allocation of funds from the "For the Poor" Fund at all levels to ensure timely and appropriate support for the Lunar New Year. The Fatherland Front at all levels participated in reviewing, compiling lists, and supervising the distribution of gifts to ensure transparency and accountability.

During the 2026 Lunar New Year, Hanoi spent approximately 574 billion VND from its budget to give gifts to over 1 million people.

Cua Nam Ward has proactively developed a detailed plan, mobilizing all available resources from the state budget to voluntary support from the community to bring "Compassionate Tet - Loving Spring" to the people in the area.

The city focuses on organizing activities to care for vulnerable groups during Tet (Lunar New Year), particularly those in extremely difficult circumstances such as children with serious illnesses, long-term patients, the elderly, people with disabilities, and lonely individuals without support. These activities are implemented in a direct, concrete, and humane manner, contributing to the spread of mutual support, compassion, and community responsibility during the Lunar New Year.

These acts of kindness and sharing have brought a more fulfilling spring to the underprivileged; at the same time, they create a unique beauty of a humane, responsible, and compassionate Hanoi. This is also a practical action, a step towards building a happy capital city where the people are placed at the center…
