The nationwide rollout of 5G mobile networks is one of the outstanding achievements and events in science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation announced by the Ministry of Science and Technology on February 6, 2026.
Feel free to livestream and make video calls.
To date, Viettel has installed and put into operation more than 30,000 5G base stations, exceeding its minimum commitment of 20,000 stations in 2025.
Viettel's 5G coverage has reached 90% of outdoor areas and 70% of indoor areas, from urban to rural areas, further solidifying its position as the largest 5G network in Vietnam. VNPT Group also stated that its VinaPhone 5G network has covered all 34 provinces and cities, focusing on key socio-economic areas.
Besides its advantages in scale and coverage, Viettel has also deployed a complete 5G SA (standalone) network. In real-world use, 5G speeds are 15-20 times faster than 4G. One of the "exclusive" applications of the 5G SA network is the Network Slicing feature, which allows for the configuration of separate networks for different customer groups according to their needs. VNPT also stated that it has successfully tested the network slicing feature and put it into service for customers.
Previously, all users shared a single network, and quality depended on the number of users accessing it simultaneously. This explains why the network was often unstable and laggy during peak hours, especially when watching 4K movies or playing online games. With the application of Network Slicing technology on the 5G SA platform, the network provider's physical network infrastructure will be divided into multiple virtual "slices." Each "slice" is designed separately with criteria such as bandwidth, latency, and reliability. This means that each customer service can have its own optimized, customized connection based on customer needs.
Ready to respond to incidents.
Despite having strong infrastructure and years of experience, especially during major holidays in 2025, telecommunications companies stated that they are not being complacent and are still preparing contingency plans and emergency response measures. A representative from VNPT stated that they have developed detailed response scenarios and are simultaneously implementing solutions to upgrade and expand network infrastructure nationwide.
Specifically, the inter-provincial transmission system has been upgraded to a total capacity of nearly 52,000 Gbps, an increase of approximately 14% compared to before. The international internet infrastructure has also been strengthened with a total capacity of over 11 Tbps, ensuring that user access needs are met even in the event of failures in some undersea cables.
"In parallel with expanding core network and transmission capacity, VNPT has added approximately 300 mobile and field base stations in areas where major events take place and where large crowds gather on New Year's Eve and during peak Tet holiday periods. VNPT's technical units monitor traffic in real time, ready to open additional connection channels or increase capacity with domestic and international partners as needed," a representative of the telecommunications group stated.
Speaking to Tuổi Trẻ newspaper, FPT Mobile also stated that it has a plan in place to ensure stable connection quality and provide the best experience for customers during the peak period of the Lunar New Year holiday. Regarding infrastructure and services, "FPT Mobile is working closely with its partner MobiFone to ensure network quality in areas with high usage. The network quality monitoring system operates 24/7, with seamless coordination between FPT Retail and MobiFone, ready to quickly handle any arising situations, helping customers use services continuously and stably throughout the Tet holiday," said Mr. Nguyen Ba Dung, Director of MVNO category, FPT Shop system.
Regarding customer care, Mr. Dung also stated that FPT Shop has strengthened resources for its call center and online support channels, ensuring prompt receipt and processing of requests even during holidays. The FPT Shop store system nationwide is also ready to assist customers with needs related to SIM cards, equipment, and telecommunications services.
According to forecasts from network operators, users are increasingly prioritizing value-added services on mobile broadband such as data, OTT applications, and social networks, while traditional voice and SMS traffic (both domestic and international) continues to decline due to the availability of alternative communication methods. "Based on traffic data from recent years, we predict that the network during Tet 2026 will not experience a significant surge compared to normal days, but we will still focus on ensuring the highest quality of service and information security," shared a leader from a network operator.
Vietnam is developing telecommunications infrastructure on par with many developed countries.
According to the 2025 summary report of the Ministry of Science and Technology, commercial 5G coverage reached 91.2% of the population nationwide. Notably, mobile broadband internet speeds reached an impressive 160 Mbps, ranking 15th out of 104 countries surveyed.
High internet speeds demonstrate that Vietnam has deployed telecommunications infrastructure on par with many developed countries. These factors allow network operators to confidently assert that they can guarantee high-quality connection speeds for all customer segments in every region and at specific times, even during peak periods like New Year's Eve and the beginning of the new year.
Ensuring information security and preventing cyberattacks.
According to VNPT representatives, information security is a top priority during this year's Tet holiday. VNPT's content control system currently boasts a processing capacity of over 1,600 Gbps, meeting the requirements for network protection under high traffic conditions. Simultaneously, VNPT has established backup signal sources from satellite and terrestrial television to backup sites, ensuring secure broadcasting for essential television channels. Technical personnel are on standby 24/7, ready to promptly handle any emerging situations and cyberattack threats.
