The Thai Rice Exporters Association optimistically reported that Thailand's rice exports from January to November 2023 reached 7.9 million tons, a 14.7% increase compared to the same period in 2022. The export value reached US$4.61 billion, a 28.9% increase.
Mr. Charoen Laothamatas, President of the Thai Rice Exporters Association, stated that rice exports in November 2023 reached 1.007 million tons, valued at 23.01 billion baht (US$657.6 million), representing increases of 19.9% and 23.3% respectively compared to October.
Rice exports in November 2023 increased, mainly in polished rice and fragrant rice varieties, as importers sought to replenish dwindling inventories amid global rice prices reaching their highest level in 15 years. Exports of polished rice in November 2023 reached 659,694 tons, a 31% increase compared to October. Key markets for Thai polished rice include Indonesia, the Philippines, Algeria, Iraq, Malaysia, Japan, Brazil, and Cameroon. Conversely, exports of parboiled rice in November 2023 totaled 91,303 tons, a decrease of 11.2% compared to October.
The association estimates that between 800,000 and 900,000 tons of rice were exported in December 2023 and is optimistic that Thailand will surpass its initial export target of 8.5 million tons of rice for 2023.
