In a Power On report on Bloomberg , analyst Mark Gurman said Apple's chip design team is working on hardware for future devices, including smart glasses, more powerful Macs, and artificial intelligence servers.

The source also revealed that Apple has made progress in developing chips for smart glasses, a move that shows Apple is accelerating the process and that the device will compete with the popular Ray-Ban glasses from Facebook parent company Meta.

Gurman added that the smart glasses’ processor will be based on the chips used in the Apple Watch and will require less power than components in products like the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. In addition, the chip has been customized to remove some parts to further improve energy efficiency. The processor is also being designed to control the multiple cameras expected to be included in the smart glasses.

The iPhone maker is expected to start mass production of the processor in late 2026 or 2027. This suggests that if the smart glasses project is successful, it could potentially hit the market in about two years. Like Apple's other major chips, TSMC will handle the manufacturing.

In recent years, the silicon team has become a key part of Apple's product development apparatus, especially after the company began replacing Intel processors with its own Mac chips in 2020.

Gurman, citing internal sources, said additional semiconductor hardware is also being developed to support future versions of the Mac, as well as the AI server that powers the Apple Intelligence platform.
