Heading out to the open sea

In his opening remarks at the 2025 THACO Cup Student Football Tournament Finals, journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper, and Head of the Organizing Committee, warmly welcomed the 11 student football teams from all over the country, who have had a courageous and proud journey in the regional qualifying rounds. They have excellently overcome the extremely rigorous selection process to be here with the host team, Ton Duc Thang University, to participate in the Finals.

The delegates went down to the field to encourage the teams.

Looking back at the qualifying rounds, journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan assessed: "The Vietnam Youth Football Tournament has entered its third season, and is still following the successful trajectory of the previous two seasons thanks to the close guidance of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association; the close professional coordination of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF); and the enthusiastic participation of students nationwide. Across six regions of the country, 66 teams participating in the qualifying rounds have contributed 101 matches with so many different emotions. There were matches where qualification for the finals was decided only by a breathtaking penalty shootout. There were matches where both the winners and losers shed tears as the tension and emotions pushed them to their limits..."

Journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan shared this message with the teams: "The players have had a convincing performance in the regional qualifiers, and now, as you venture into the wider world, you will continue to demonstrate your mettle in the face of adversity. The road to glory is still fraught with difficulties, however, the Organizing Committee believes that the teams will have even more motivation in this year's finals. That is, the champion of the 3rd season will receive an additional prestigious prize: together with the host team, Ton Duc Thang University, they will represent Vietnamese students in the 2025 International Youth and Student Football Tournament - THACO Cup, which will take place from March 22-30, 2025, also at this stadium."

The song "Big Boat, Big Waves, " performed by singer Pham Lich at the opening ceremony, served as encouragement for the players to play well, overcome difficulties and challenges in the 2025 THACO Cup Finals, and have truly memorable experiences.

Spreading the love of school football.

Before solemnly declaring the opening of the THACO Cup 2025 Student Football Tournament Finals, the Head of the Organizing Committee called upon the student players – the future intellectuals: "Together, we ignite the dream of reaching the pinnacle. Together, we spread the love of football and develop school sports . Together, we contribute to creating a generation of healthy, talented, ambitious Vietnamese students, confidently entering a new era."

Journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper, and Head of the Organizing Committee, presented the tournament jersey to the head coach of the Vietnamese national team, Kim Sang-sik.

The players from the 12 outstanding teams that qualified for the finals expressed their joy, excitement, and desire to conquer upon witnessing the large number of fans who came to the Ton Duc Thang University stadium to attend the opening ceremony and cheer on the competing teams. The presence of the head coach of the Vietnamese national football team, Mr. Kim Sang-sik, who led the Vietnamese team to victory in the 2024 AFF Cup; and the captain of the Vietnamese women's national team, Huynh Nhu, who helped Vietnamese women's football make history by participating in the World Cup for the first time, further motivated the players to conquer the highest level of student football. The timely attention and encouragement from the leaders of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Department of Sports and Physical Education, the VFF, the university principals, and the partner organizations at the opening ceremony also served as a catalyst for the continued strong development of student football.

Coach Ta Hong Ha of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry team, who qualified for the THACO Cup Finals for the first time, expressed his particular impression of the meticulous and professional organization that the organizing committee provided for all the teams. "We need more tournaments like the Thanh Nien Newspaper Cup." "The aim is to create a quality playing field for student football. This will encourage schools to invest more heavily, and give students motivation and clear goals to strive for," said Coach Ta Hong Ha.
